Movers & Shakers: February 17, 2017

Botswana: DCI -0.22%, USD 276k

Some small activity in a few names tried to get things going in Gaborone but to no avail.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.77%, USD 3.7m

As always on a Friday in Nairobi we saw volumes dry up as weekend approaches. Once again Safcom (-82bps, KES18.05) saw the lion’s share of the trading action as the telco accounted for more than 60% of the total market turnover. There was also some mild trading in EABL (-44bps, KES224.00).

Mauritius: Semdex +0.14%, USD 1m

Back to normal in Port Louis with MCBG leading the way on the activity front as 47k shares changed hands in the name while the rest of the market was quiet.

Nigeria: ASI +0.44%, USD 6.2m

A chunky late cross in Zenith Bank (+7bps, N15.00) was the main highlight on yet another dull day in Nigeria. Banks ticked slightly higher (+75bps) with only GTB (+1.25%, N24.30) seeing any activity outside of Zenith. Consumers (+1.05%) finally found some ounce of resilience of the recent bout of weakness although volumes in the sector were extremely thin.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.10%, USD 327k

Some small activity in CBZ ($149k) the only name worth mentioning on a slow day in Harare.
