Movers & Shakers: October 31, 2017


Botswana: DCI +0.02%, USD 235k

Not the best of days in Gaborone today with BIHL ($188k) being 80% of the market and Letshego ($34k) the only other name with some sort of activity.

Kenya: NSE20 +1.49%, USD 7.3m

Activity picked up in Nairobi today, although EABL (-0.41%, KES244.00) and KCB (-0.65%, KES38.00) closed in the red. Safaricom was up +0.99 to close at KES25.50, the telco announced today that the CEO will take indefinite medical leave while CFO, Sateesh Kamath will take the primary role. Equity (+4.1%, KES38.00) after reporting that EPS declined by 2.8% YoY to KES3.87 in 3Q17.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.03%, USD 2.08m

The Semdex weakened slightly with Rs71.4m changing hands in Port Loius. MCBG (unch, Rs275.00) once again fighting a valiant fight being 22% of total market turnover and Greenbay (unch, Rs0.15) accounting for almost 50% of the market. The other little movement that took place on the stock exchange was stretched between SBM (+0.3%, Rs7.40), ENL (-0.3%, Rs43.15), and Bluelife (+0.9%, Rs2.32).

Nigeria: ASI +0.54%, USD 8.45m

A slight improvement on the Nigeria stock exchange today as the consumer and industrial sector indices closed in positive territory gaining (+0.17%) and (+1.11%) respectively. While the banking sector index sheds (-0.89%) to closed south with losses recorded in Fidelity Bank (-6.17%, N1.52), Unity Bank (-1.92%, N0.51) and FCMB (-1.83%, N1.07). The most actively traded stocks were GTB ($2.3m), NB ($1.5m), Unilever ($495k) and Zenith ($251k)

Zimbabwe: Industrials +1.26%, USD 8.1m

A couple of names driving the market on the Harare bouse today while the rest of the market was extremely quiet. Econet ($4.5m) and Delta ($2.5m) accounting for a combined total of 86% of total market turnover.
