Some action in BIHL (1050t) and FNBB (350t) the bulk of todays action in Gaborone. Some scraps traded in other names. Letshego results came out which at first glance look ok.

Egypt: EGX 30 +0.18%, USD 39m

The EGX30 index managed to slightly rebound today as local institutions stepped back into the market following yesterday's hit and supported the Case to close at 5,268.43 points up 0.18%. Volumes were below average today on a total turnover of USD 39m. The likes PHDC(+4.74%), ESRS(+1.68%), TMGH(+1.47%) and ORTE(+0.65%) were amongst the names that managed to keep the index in positive territory absorbing the pressure on the heavy weight COMI(-0.56%) alongside HRHO(-2.01%). It's worth mentioning that the surge amidst the Real estate sector stocks was driven by news that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the settlements of the Conflict Resolutions Committee with 11 investors with PHDC to get permits Matrouh land (Egypt's North Coast), right to reclaim payments on returned land; TMGH also obtains renewal in approvals on Four Seasons Extension.

Investor mix:
•  Foreigners were net Sellers by 10.14 mn EGP and were 29.28% of the market.
•  Egyptians were net Buyers by 14.43 mn EGP and were 63.61% of the market.
•  Arabs were net Sellers by 4.30 mn EGP and were 7.11% of the market.
•  Institutions were net Buyers by 0.46 mn EGP and were 60.84% of the market.
•  Retail were net Sellers by 0.46 mn EGP and were 39.15% of the market.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.61%, USD 10.9m

Equity turnover fell 20.5%, due to reduced local investor activity. Foreign investors dominated trading today, accounting for 54% of trades. Top foreign investor buys included Safaricom and EABL while top foreign sells were KCB and Equity Bank. Safaricom was the day’s top mover accounting for 24% of volumes. The counter climbed 1.6% recouping previous session losses to close at its year high of KES 6.55. Access Kenya also recouped its losses gaining 3.5% in today’s session to close at KES 8.90. On the losing end, Stanchart eased 5.7% to KES 300 as investors adjusted the price for dividend book closure. KCB extended its losses slipping further 1.8% to KES 41 on foreign selling.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.17%, USD 370k

A very dull day in Port Louis as the market just never got going while the index slipped 17bps. The losers included MCB (-53bps, Rs187) and NMH (-1.39%, Rs71). The losers were offset by a 1.09% gain to Rs7.40 in Bramer Banking.

Nigeria: ASI -1.40%, USD 36.59m

Profit taking particularly in the banks was the main theme today. The selling was most notable early on in the Tier 2 names – Fidelity (-5.57%, N2.88) the main loser although Diamond, FCMB and Skye Bank were also weak. This dragged down the Tier 1 names later in the session with ETI (-7.44%, N14.81) and UBA (-3.57%, N6.75) the biggest fallers in the Tier 1s. Consumer names again didn’t find a direction yet again saw some heavy trading. NB traded more than $8.5m yet closed unchanged at N160 while Guinness (+8bps, N260.20) and Nestle (+87bps, N930) also saw active trading. A large cross of $2.5m Dangote Cement pushed the price down 3.17% at N156.

South Africa: Top 40 +0.22%, USD 1.56bn

The JSE ended the day higher with the Top 40 Index gaining 0.22% to close at 33,305 while value traded amounted to USD 1.56bn. Financials were the day’s biggest gainers with the Index gaining 0.35% followed Resources and Industrials which gained 0.33% and 0.08% respectively. The Rand was trading at 9.18 and 12.00 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE -0.71%, USD 599k

Active day in Lusaka with value traded amounting to a rather impressive USD 599k thanks to crosses in ZSUG, ZMBF and AELZ. ZSUG was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 453k. ZMBF was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 79k.
