Botswana: DCI +0.86%, Vols USD 3m

Gaborone ended the week on an active note with USD3m worth crossing the floor today. Vol traded was dominated by one counter FNBB, which contributed to 80% of the turnover with 6,110,256 shares trading in the name at 10t higher at 285t. BIHL saw 296,202 shares trade at 1000t. Choppies traded 3t higher at 148t. Letshego was unchanged at 150t on 30000 shares.

Egypt: Closed today

Ghana: Vols USD 105k

Value traded on the Ghanaian Stock Exchange amounted to USD 105k today. GCB was the biggest contributor towards value traded (67.03%) with the name closing at 1.85. CAL was the second biggest contributor towards value traded (6.78%) with the counter closing at 0.24.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.57%, Vols USD 4.10m

Good way to end off the week today with value traded amounting to $4.10m. KNCB led from the front today with a cross of 3m shares going through early on at 24, the buyer was foreign while the seller was local, a total of 4.56m shares changed hands in the counter. There were two decent crosses in EABL one of 100k shares at 212 and another of 50k shares at 213 with a total of 240k shares traded in the name. Equity Bank was relatively active with 1.25m shares traded. The Central Bank set May 3 as the date of its next meeting. Foreigners were net buyers today accounting for $2.43m of total purchases while they accounted for $469k of total sales. The market closed the day higher with the NSE 20 Index gaining 0.57% to close at 3,554.46.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.06%, Vols USD 1.1m

The Semdex ended the day 0.06% lower while the Sem-7 closed 0.06% higher. Turnover stood at USD 1.1m. MCB accounted for 59% of the day's turnover with 113,040 shares trading at Rs165. SBM was unchanged at Rs81.50. On the hotel front, NMH lost 0.70% at Rs70.50 on thin trading. Sun eased to Rs39 on 100 shares. ENL LAND (P) saw interesting vols with the counter recording a cross of 156,700 shares at Rs39.50 shortly after market opening. On the commercial side, Harel Mallac traded at Rs149.

Nigeria: ASI +1.71%, Vols USD 35.23mill

Nigeria had another strong session led higher by a banking sector on steroids (BNK10 +3.21%). Most pleasingly, there was improved volumes across the board while select names saw some incredibly aggressive buying. NB in particular was targeted with some buyers happy to print at limit up in good size. The counter closed +5% at N109.20 on full bid. GTB saw a massive 80m share cross and the name was active throughout the day, closing up 2.01% at N15.72. Zenith Bank closed up 5% at N13.67 while FBN had another strong day +2.71% closing at N11. As noted earlier, the banking sector continues to drive this market strength.

South Africa: Top 40 +0.25%, Vols USD 1.52bn

The JSE ended the day higher with the Top 40 Index gaining 0.25% to close at 30,185 while value traded amounted to USD 1.52bn. Financials were the day's biggest gainers with the Index gaining 0.74% followed by Resources and Industrials which gained 0.24% and 0.16% respectively. The Rand was trading at 7.80 and 10.29 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE +0.50%, Vols USD 13k

Extremely dull day in Lusaka today with value traded amounting to a paltry USD 13k. The names that traded included CECZ, INVE, LAFA, PUMA, SCBL, ZMFA and ZNCO. LAFA was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 8k. ZNCO was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 4k.

Zimbabwe: Industrial +1.19%, Mining Unch, Vols 3m

Harare ended the week on a positive note with the Industrial index up 1.19% at 133.83pts while the Mining's index remained unchanged. The market recorded a special bargain of 211,700 Old Mutual shares at 155c. Delta was actively traded in with 3,631,885 shares trading at 70c. Seedco edged up 9.76% to 90c. Colcom traded 3.33% higher 31c while ABCH increased by 1.54% to 66c. Star Africa led the losers, closing 9.09% lower at 0.50%. FCBH lost 2.50% at 5.85c. Barclays traded 2.26% lower at 3.90c. On the Minings side, Rio recorded the only traded of the day, with 7,100 shares trading flat at 55c.
