Botswana: DCI +0.12%, USD 81k

The markets was active in the sense that 13 names traded but the trading was not significant meaning that the total value traded only totaled $81k. Stanchart and FNBB were the most active names. There were 4 gainers Choppies, Letlole, Sefalana and Stanchart closing at 163t, 141t, 297t and 982t respectively. The two losers were Barclays and G4S losing -1t each closing at 713t and 588t respectively.

Egypt: Market closed for the day

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.48%, USD 4.07m

Solid end to the week in Nairobi with value traded amounting to $4.07m. EABL was once again the biggest contributor towards value traded with a cross of 590k shares as both the buyer and seller were foreign, a total of 640k shares traded in the counter. Safcom was relatively active thanks to a few large crosses with a total of 19.47m shares changing hands, foreigners accounted for 99% of purchases while they accounted for 96% of sales. Foreigners accounted for all of the purchases in BATK today as 100k shares traded. Foreigners were net buyers and accounted for $3.47m of total purchases while they accounted for $2.62m of total sales. The market closed higher with the NSE 20 Index gaining 0.48% to close at 3,843.58.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.25%, USD 570k

Slow going in Mauritius today. The Losses in NMH and Terra -2.86% and -1.02% respectively more than offset the gain made by SBM +0.61% meaning that the SEM-7 closed -0.24% lower. Rogers traded quite actively at a price of 310.00 while MCB was the most active trader at an unchanged price of 167.00. Notably, from outside of the SEM-7, Sun Resorts and MUA were very active relatively speaking.

Nigeria: ASI -0.06%, USD 14.72m

It was a very quiet session before a flurry of activity more than doubled the value traded. There were last minute book overs in GTB which made a large contribution to the jump in activity. The name closed -0.79% lower with a total value traded of almost $5m. NB and FBN were the other active names, closing +0.29% and unch respectively. The top tier banks were mixed and the mid-tier banks took a beating. The conglomerates had a good day Flourmills +0.96%, PZ +4.17% and Unilever + 0.69%. The two food names Cadbury and DangS made good gains while oil company Oando fell -3.45%.

South Africa: Top 40 +0.53%, USD 1.35bn

The JSE ended the day higher with the Top 40 Index gaining 0.53% to close at 30,981 while value traded amounted to USD 1.35bn. Financials were the day's biggest gainers with the Index gaining 2.11% followed by Industrials and Resources which gained 0.53% and 0.13% respectively. The Rand was trading at 8.15 and 10.08 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE +0.25%, USD 30k

Quiet day in Zambia with value traded amounting to USD 30k. The names that traded included BATZ, CECZ, FQM, LAFA, PUMA, SCBL, ZAIN, ZNCO and ZMFA. LAFA was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 13k. SCBL was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the amounting to USD 8k.

Zimbabwe: Industrial Index +0.66%, Mining unch, USD 1.3m

Market volumes reduced from yesterday despite turnover rising to $1.3m from $452,918. Delta was the market favorite as trades in the stock constituted 65% of the value of trades. Delta‘s price eased to 67.93c shedding 0.07c due to increased supply. The market saw notable volumes change hands in Turnall 1.9m shares bringing the total trades in this counter to 6,573,710 shares. After four consecutive losses this week the industrial index ended the last session for the week in the black rising +0.66% to 133.44pts buoyed gains in Hippo, SeedCO, CBZ and Old Mutual. The mining index was unchanged at 105.51 points as BINDURA, FALGOLD, HWANGE, and RIOZIM were unchanged at previous levels.
