Another pretty relaxed day in Gaborone as nothing of much excitement took place. The most active names were Sechaba (1760t) and Sefalana (625t)
Egypt: Closed for the day.
Another active day in Kenya as the banks in particular were the focus of much activity. Foreign investors were yet again the bulk of the trading. As mentioned, the banks were the focal point of today's activity as KCB and Equity Bank closed up 1.7% and 70bps respectively on good volumes. Safcom also saw a few crosses go through as the name eventually closed up 1.9% for the day at an all-time high of KES 8.05. EABL fell by 90bps to KES 327 ahead of next week's results presentation (due out on Friday morning).
Another strong day as the bulls won the day in Mauritius yet again. The Sem-7 gained 21bps led by 3 stocks which gained, SBM (+97bps, Rs1.04), Alteo (+88bps, Rs34.50) and ENL Land (+47bps. Rs43). The only faller was Bramer Banking which fell by 3.17% to Rs6.10.
Today a couple of chunky crosses again dominated turnover. The banks closed down a mere 34bps with FBNH, GTB and Access witnessing some of the said chunky crosses. Performance was mixed across the sector with no real outperformers or underperformers. Consumers rebounded from their recent weakness as the sector closed up 54bps. This was predominantly due to gains in Cadbury (+5.36%, N50.90) and NB (+95bps, N169.50). Nestle and NB saw some chunky activity throughout the day. The cement sector saw Dangote Cement as the main trader as almost $1.5m changed hands as the name closed down 1% at N190.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The JSE had another strong day as the Top 40 closed up 1.4%. The rand was trading at R10.00, R15.62 and R13.33 vs the USD, GBP and EUR respectively at the time of writing.
The Zambian market continues to plumb new depths as just $4k changed hands. Nothing to report.
A very lively session in Harare as the ZSE recorded all-time single session highs. The major reason for this was a special bargain of 55.7m CBZ shares ($8.35m) - believed to be a strategic investor buying into the name. The other names that were active included Econet ($3.2m) and Delta ($2.8m). More pleasingly, Econet and Delta traded at unchanged prices of 53c and 115c respectively.
