Botswana: DCI -1.03%, USD 526k

Another decent day in Botswana with plenty of names trading. The bulk of the activity was recorded in FNBB (364t), Barclays (694t) and Letshego (236t) while a variety of other names saw lighter action.

Egypt: Closed for the day.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.47%, USD 5.5m

In today’s session, foreign investors turned net buyers pushing net inflows to USD 1.85m from Thursday’s net outflow of USD 1.45m. However, down 32.6%, equity turnover eased for the second straight day. Of the day’s top movers, only KPLC registered net foreign outflows. Supported by strong demand from foreign investors, EABL continued to rally, up 1.6%, touching a high of KES 400, before pulling back to KES 391. After accounting for 95.3% of total sales on KCB yesterday, foreign investors turned net buyers – trading on the counter was dominated by foreigners. Despite the price remaining unchanged, BAT and Scangroup witnessed strong foreign sales – 74% and 91% respectively. Reversing all the gains made the previous session, Standard Group topped the losers list.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.28%, USD 566k

Yet another quiet day in Mauritius as the index struggles to find buyers in any meaningful size. The Sem-7 lost a disappointing 50bps with the main drags being MCB (-90bps, Rs193), NMH (-70bps, Rs71) and Alteo (-1.33%, Rs37). The only gainer in the Sem-7 was ENL Land (+21bps, Rs48.60).

Nigeria: ASI +1.40%, USD 26.03m

Some aggressive buying in the consumers to end the week pushed the market northwards. The consumer sector closed up 1.53% which was mostly due to NB (+2.58%, N179), Dangote Sugar (+2.91%, N8.49) and Cadbury (+1.14%, N44.50). Nestle and NB both saw good volumes. The banks ended the session unchanged with names mixed across the sector. FBNH was the only real loser, ending -2.21% at N18.57 while none of the banks recorded any substantial gains. In the cement sector, DangCem closed up 3.83% at N187 while Wapco continues to be volatile and settled down 3% at N92.15.

South Africa: Top 40 +1.27%, USD 1.52bn

The JSE ended the day higher with the Top 40 Index gaining 1.27% to close at 36,785 while value traded amounted to USD 1.52bn. Industrials were the day's biggest gainers with the Index gaining 1.72% followed by Financials and Resources which gained 0.67% and 0.49% respectively. The Rand was trading at 9.39 and 12.05 to the EUR and USD respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE +0.18%, USD 228k

Another decent day in Lusaka with value traded amounting to USD 228k thanks to a cross in REIZ. The names that traded included CEC, REIZ, SCZ and ZNCO. REIZ was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 207k. ZNCO was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD20k.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +1.67%, Mining +0.96%, USD 8.13m

In week ending trades both indices traded in the positive territory. The mainstream industrial firmed 1.67% to close the week at 210.29 pts scaling new highs while the mining index gained 0.96% to close trade at 75.56pts. Positive sentiment proliferated across all tiers in a session which saw 13 risers against 6 fallers. This comes in the wake of improved set of financials by market leaders Delta whose earnings topped $1m and in today’s trade in Delta heavy bidding took the beverages giant to a new high of 143.01c being a 5% gain. Volumes traded improved by 100% to 8m buoyed by a significant parcel in Innscor. Value traded likewise gained 1300% to $8.13m. Foreign purchases recovered to $1.8m from yesterday’s $.2m while foreign sales improved 51% to $0.047m.
