Botswana: DCI -0.13%, USD 5k

The DCI characterised by thin volumes ended the week 0.13% lower at 7,348.95pts. Sechaba traded 45t higher at 1,500t. ABCH gaind 15t at 415t. FNBB recorded the only loss of the day, closing 1t lower at 294t. Letshego was level at 139t with only 1,500 shares trading in the name.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.18%, USD 7.69m

Very active day to end the week in Nairobi with value traded amounting to $7.69. Kenya Commercial Bank was very active thanks to a large cross with both the buyer and the seller being foreign as a total of 8.30m shares traded in the name. There was a big cross in CFCR as a total of 16.4m shares traded with foreigners accounting for 100% of purchases in the counter. Foreigners accounted for 56% of purchases in Equity Bank today as a total of 2.98m shares traded in the name. Foreigners were net buyers and accounted for $5.93m of total purchases while they accounted for $2.63m of total sales. The market closed the day lower with the NSE 20 Index falling 0.18% to close at 3,927.44.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.03%, Sem-7 -0.14%, USD 1m

The market ended the week on a weaker note with the Semdex down 0.03% while the Sem-7 edged down 0.14%. Air Mauritius lost 0.50c to close at a VWAP of Rs10. Bramer Banking traded 2.2% higher at Rs9.20. SBM lost 0.6% at Rs82. On the banking fornt NMH increased by 0.83% at Rs82. Lux Resorts slid by 0.7% to close at Rs15.

Nigeria: ASI -0.01%, USD 17.42m

Better day in terms of activity today with value traded amounting to $17.42m. Zenith got things going early in the session as 38m shares crossed at 16.05 with the name later rallying to close at 16.50. Banking stocks in general were rather active with 22.36m shares traded in Access while 19.13m shares changed hands in Guaranty Trust Bank. The Bank10 Index gained 0.72%. Intbrew was amongst the most active stocks as a total of 10.05m shares traded in the name. The market closed the day lower with the ASI falling 0.01% to close at 25,873.71.

South Africa: Top 40 -0.46%, USD 1.79bn

The JSE ended the day lower with the Top 40 Index falling 0.46% to close at 31,934 while value traded amounted to USD 1.79bn. Resources were the day's biggest losers with the Index falling 1.00% followed by Industrials and Financials which fell 0.86% and 0.15% respectively. The Rand was trading at 8.23 and 10.70 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE unch, USD 156k

Fairly decent day in Lusaka thanks to a crosses in Zambeef and LAFA with value traded amounting to USD 156k. The names that traded included CECZ, SCBL, LAFA, ZMBF and ZNCO. LAFA was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 88k. ZMBF was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 64k.

Zimbabwe: Industrial Index +0.27%, Mining Index +2.67%, USD 3.33m

The Industrial index ended the week 0.27% higher at 142.43pts. Turnover stood at $3.33m on the back of block trades in Delta which saw 4.1m shares trade level at 75c, accounting for 93% of today’s trades as volumes remain thin on most stocks. PPC added 4.35% to 240c, Seedco and Old Mutual rose 0.59% apiece to 171c and 85.5c respectively while solid demand in retailer OK pushed the price 3.76% to an all-time high of 14c albeit on thin volumes. Mining stocks topped the day’s risers as Falgold rose 92.31% to 25c, Bindura added 11.11% to 3c and Rio picked 9.80% to 56c. The mining index gained 2.67% to close at 93.50points and is 16.18% up on a weekly basis.
