Botswana: DCI -0.07%, USD 294k

A soft day in Gaborone as most of the action centered on BIHL, which closed at 1050t. Letlole also saw some activity and closed at 165t while FNBB was the 3rd most active name and settled at 369t.

Egypt: Closed for the day.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.53%, USD 5.0m

Equity turnover fell 38.5% with foreign investors and local investors equally accounting for the days volumes. The NSE 20 index eased 0.53%, with 12 of the counters traded gaining and 22 declining. On the back of strong foreign investor demand, Equity Bank was the day top mover accounting for 36% of trades. KCB was also fairly actively traded today, accounting for 28% of trades with foreign investors being net sellers on the counter. Safaricom continued to recoup losses made earlier in the week gaining 0.7% to KES 7.20, buoyed by strong foreign investor demand. KenolKobil reversed its previous session gains slipping 3.4% to KES 10. Despite posting positive FY13 results earlier in the week, Centum extended its losses easing 2.2% to KES 22.25.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.34%, USD 884k

A quiet end to the week in Port Louis with both the Semdex and Sem-7 losing ground. The only gainer among the Sem-7 was Alteo (+28bps, Rs36) while stocks that fell included MCB (-51bps, Rs195), NMH (70bps, Rs71), ENL Land (-2.13%, Rs46) and Terra (-1.46%, Rs40.40).

Nigeria: ASI +0.14%, USD 33.77m

Despite a quiet start to the session we witnessed some blocks going through which once again raised volumes while the ASI gained 14bps. The banks saw some chunky action in the Tier 1 names although profit takers still pushed the sector lower (-80bps). The biggest fallers were Stanbic (-2.06%, N17.15) and UBA (-1.14%, N8.70) while Union Bank fell by the maximum (-10%, N13.09) after releasing results. The consumers gained 5bps with NB (unch, N178), Unilever (-9bps, N67.84) and Nestle (+2bps, N1075.17) dominating activity in the sector. Market large cap DangCem gained 72bps to N210 on good volumes.

South Africa: Top 40 +1.33%, USD 1.77bn

The JSE ended the day higher with the Top 40 Index gaining 1.33% to close at 36,345 while value traded amounted to USD 1.77bn. Industrials were the day's biggest gainers with the Index gaining 1.57% followed by Financials and Resources which gained 1.19% and 0.72% respectively. The Rand was trading at 9.97 and 13.15 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE +0.86%, USD 223k

Decent day to end the week in Lusaka thanks to a cross in ATEL with value traded amounting to USD 223k. The names that traded included ATEL, CEC, REIZ, SCZ and ZSUG. ATEL was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 220k. CEC was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 1.5k.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +1.34%, Mining +5.98%, USD 1.2m

The positive sentiment persisted in week ending trades with new highs being witnessed in Afre +7.8% to 14.01c and Delta +2% to 155c. Demand remained strong in heavy weights that registered gains including cigarette manufacturer BAT +0.61% at 830c; Hippo +5% to 105c; conglomerate Innscor +4.2% to 100c and seed manufacturer SeedCo +1.9% to 80c. Today’s gainers drove industrials +1.34% higher to end the week at 218.84pts. Minings were not left out with the index putting on +5.98% to 74.75 pts as coal miners Hwange heaved +14.8% to 16c and BNC recovered +7.4% to 2.9c. Foreign interest was subdued with inflows down -57.5% to $0.4m and outflows -51.7% to $0.35m. Turnover of the day also dipped -14.4% to $1.72m.
