Botswana: DCI +0.09%, Vols USD 97k

The DCI edged up 0.09% to 6972.60pts. BIHL was the only mover of the day, ending 19t higher at 1000t, accounting for 81% of the day's turnover. Letshego was unchanged on 3365 shares. FNB, G4S and Primetime traded at previous levels at 265t, 619t and 180t respectively.

Egypt: EGX 30 +0.68%, Vols USD 106m

The market managed to end the day on a postive note, leaving the EGX30 up 0.68%, at 5,344.32 points on avearge volume of USD 106m. The market opened in negative territory , to trade alomost 2% lower and hit a low of 5,213.53 points. Half-way through the session the market started to witness buying interest and managed to rebound and erase it's earlier losses and traded in the black till the close. Foreign institutions were net buyers today targeting blue chips mainly EMOB, ESRS, COMI and TMGH. local retail were also net buyers directing their attention namely on HRHO and OCDI lifting the stocks +7.42% and 9.99% resoectively. The Interest in HRHO was derived by rumors of a possible special dividend distibution. On the other hand, Local institutions contiued to book profits and were the sole net sellers today on intensified talks in parliament regarding the replacement of current cabinet especially after NGO workers travel ban was lifted.

Investor mix:
•  Foreigners were net Buyers by 17.24 mn EGP and were 15.92% of the market.
•  Egyptians were net Sellers by 18.60 mn EGP and were 76.64% of the market.
•  Arabs were net Buyers by 1.35 mn EGP and were 7.44% of the market.
•  Institutions were net Sellers by 4.05 mn EGP and were 30.67% of the market.
•  Retail were net Buyers by 4.05 mn EGP and were 69.32% of the market.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.4%, Vols USD 4.5m

The NSE 20 Index rose 0.4% ahead of tomorrow’s MPC meeting. Turnover increased by 6% on the back of improved participation by local institutional investors. Foreign investors were also active, accounting for 36.1% of equity volumes, up from 34.5% in the previous session. Safaricom traded +4.92% higher at KES 3.22. KCB edged up 4.7% to KES 22.30, touching a high of KES 23 during the session as BAT retraced back some last week’s gains to close at KES 306, 6.1% lower than the previous session.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.08%, Vols USD 1.2m

The market started the week with both the Semdex and the Sem-7 marginally lower. Banking stocks, MCB and SBM remained level at Rs163 and Rs78.50 respectively. On the hotel front, all stocks ended the day at previous levels. Gamma Civic saw 30k shares cross at Rs360. The stock ended the day 0.60% lower. PBL closed 2% lower. IBL was down 0.64% at Rs77.50%. The Dem lost 0.4% to 145.28pts.

Nigeria: ASI +0.70%, Vols USD 28.50m

The NSE ASI gained 0.70% while value traded amounted to USD 28.50m. Top traded stocks were UBA, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, Diamond Bank, Zenith Bank, Oando Plc, GTB, First Bank, Courtville Business Solutions, Transcorp Plc and Access Bank. Top losers of the day were Berger Paints (-4.96%), BAGCO Plc (-4.71%), Redstar Express (-4.40%), Intercontinental Wapic Insurance (-3.85%) and Custodian & Allied Insurance (-3.80%). The gainers were led by Flourmills Plc (4.99%), Julius Berger (4.97%), Ashaka Cement (4.97%), Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (4.95%) and RT Briscoe (4.88%). The banking sector index closed up 59bps. Access Bank closed down 0.39% at N7.60 and traded 10.20m units while First Bank closed up 1.76% at N11.59 and traded 18.10m units. GTB closed up 0.91% at N14.38 and traded 18.44m units in total. The sector also had crosses of 59m units of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, 58m units of UBA, 47m units of Diamond Bank, 14m units of Zenith Bank, 3m units of First Bank and 3m units of Access. In the building materials sector, Lafarge Wapco closed up 2.89% at N41.00 and traded 102k units while Dangote Cement closed down 1.59% at N108.5 while trading 3.70m units in total. Ashaka Cement closed up 4.97% at N10.57 and traded 969k units in total. The sector also had a cross of 3.5m units of Dangote Cement. In the food and beverages sector Cadbury closed flat at N9.17 and traded 82k units while Dangote Sugar closed up 1.35% at N3.75 and traded 9.38m units. Nestle closed flat at N400.00 and traded 412k units in total. There were also crosses of 18m units of Oando Plc, 14m units of Courtville Business Solutions, 4.1m units of Unilever, 2.4m units of Royal Exchange and 3m units of Transcorp Plc.

South Africa: Top 40 Index -0.56%, Vols USD 1.16bn

The JSE ended the day lower with the Top 40 Index falling 0.56% to close at 30,236 while value traded amounted to USD 1.16bn. Resources were the day's biggest losers with the Index falling 1.34% followed by Industrials which fell 0.05% while Financials gained 0.10%. The Rand was trading at 7.56 and 9.99 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE +0.29%, Vols USD 35k

The market recorded a turnover of USD 35,288. The names that traded included CECZ, FARM, NATB, PMDZ, SCBL, SHOP, ZNCO and ZSUG. ZSUG was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 32k. CECZ was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 2k.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.58%, Mining +1.94%, Vols USD 1.2m

The Industrial index commenced the week in negative with the index easing -0.58% to 143.79pts. CBZ lost -7.14% to touch 52-week low of 6.50c while Interfin dropped -10% to 4.5c as liquidity challenges straining the banking sector persist. Seedco and Hippo eased -4.55% and -2.78%. Delta recovered +1.3% to 70c while AICO put on +2.56% to 20c. AICO and Delta accounted for 85% or $1.03m of total trades after 3m shares in AICO were crossed at 20c in trades worth $604,906 and 605,946 units exchanged hands in Delta in trades worth $424,162 all spurred by foreign buying. A 3.3% recovery in Hwange to 31c saw the mining index rise +1.94% to 94.47pts. Trading however remains sluggish in the resources sector as other mining stocks besides Hwange recorded no trades.
