Botswana: DCI +0.22%, USD 695k

The Gaborone bourse never reached the highs of yesterday but there was still some decent activity in StanChart (1160t) and BIHL (1054t).

Egypt: EGX 30 +0.18%, USD 71m

The market managed to trade to pick up positive momentum leaving the EGX30 to end the day up 0.18% to close at 6,335.05 points. Market volumes continue to be fairly strong yet slightly weaker than recent turnovers, the market traded a total turnover of EGP493m. The market started the day with a notable positive sentiment to reach a high of 6,400.98 points mainly lead from local retail investors , targeting mostly med/small caps were names such as UEGC(+3.18%), ACGC(+1.35%) and PIOH(+0.98%) witnessed buying accumulation, yet after med session institutional investor managed to pressure the market to come the day high, were name such as COMI, AMER and ETEL witnessed notable pressure leaving each to end the day down 0.33%, 1.54% and 0.36% respectively.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.07%, USD 6.0m

An increase in foreign investor participation was behind the increase in activity today as total value traded amounted to $6.0m. Kenya Commercial Bank closed the day unchanged and was the day's most active stock as 2.40m shares traded in the counter with foreigners accounting for 93% of sales. Foreigners dominated both sides of Safcom as 9.9m shares changed hands in the telco. Kenya Airways continued it's surge higher with the counter gaining 4.70% to close at KES 13.45. The airline is set to report H1 2014 performance figures tomorrow.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.33%, USD 465k

A very dull day in Port Louis as virtually nothing happened. The Sem-7 ended the day unchanged with losses in MCB (-50bps, Rs201) and IBL (-1.01%, Rs98). These were offset by gains in SBM (+99bps, Rs1.02) and Alteo (+14bps, Rs36.35).

Nigeria: ASI +1.04%, USD 20.3m

Despite the quiet nature of the session we saw some heavy buying in the banks (+47bps) and consumers (+19bps). Outside of a couple of crosses the day was once again extremely quiet. The Tier 1 banks were strong after the ThisDay story about the “too big to fail” banks. ETI and GTB both saw some chunky trading and most of the sector closed in the green. Consumers were driven by strength in NB (+1.42%, N178) on good volumes while Nestle closed down 82bps at N1205 on big volumes. The cements were also active today with big crossing in DangCem (+2.70%, N190) and Wapco (-1.90%, N103).

South Africa: Top 40 -0.07%, USD 1.35bn

The JSE ended the day lower with the Top 40 Index falling 0.07% to close at 40,727 while value traded amounted to USD 1.35bn. Resources were the day's biggest losers with the Index falling 0.67% while FInancials and Industrials gained 0.29% and 0.12% respectively. The Rand was trading at 10.37 and 13.95 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.84%, Mining -5.05%, USD 1.77m

The mainstream Industrial Index sustained a purple patch in Tuesday trades adding 0.84% to 215.18pts which is 8% shy of its all-time high of 232.87pts as the market continue to recover from the post election sell-off. Heavies Delta, Old Mutual and Hippo inspired the industrials advance. Delta was up 2.21% to 143.10c while Old Mutual and Hippo rose 1.92% and 2.68% to 265c and 115c respectively. Delta’s interim results presentation is due tomorrow. The Mining Index, having failed to provide a definite path in the second half of the year today eased 5.05% to 46.09pts. It was weighed down by Hwange which saccumbed 28.57% to 10c on a meager volumes of 2000. The coal miner has since appointed the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) to look into a proposal by major shareholder Nick Van Hoogstraten involving a $50m loan.
