Botswana: DCI unch, USD 1.36m

A big cross (3m shares) in FNB drove activity today as total value traded amounted to USD 1.36m. The rest of the market was extremely quiet.

Egypt: EGX 30 +0.59%, USD 75m

Another green day for the Egyptian market leaving the EGX30 to end the day up 0.59% to close at 5,680.65 point. The market continues to trade improved volumes, the market traded at total turnover of USD 75m. With no major news to the buck the positive trend the market continued with its bullish sentiment but with less momentum, local retail investors continue build positions in names such as PIOH, UEGC and GTHE leaving each to end the day up 2.11%, 2.11% and 0.56% respectively, also names such as ETEL, TMGH and COMI managed to gain interest from institutional investors leaving each to end the day up 0.82%, 2.39% and 1.08% respectively, it’s worth mentioning that profit booking was evident in the market, were names such as OTMT, APSW and APPC witnessed selling pressure leaving each to end the day down 1.64%, 1.54% and 2.48% respectively.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.21%, USD 6.3m

Much better day in Nairobi today as value traded amounted to a respectable $6.3m. Safcom completely dominated activity thanks to a large cross as a total of 31.58m shares traded with the telco falling (-1.2%) for a a second day in a row. EABL extended it's gains with the brewer gaining 1% to close at KES 307 as there was a large cross in the counter towards the close of the session. TPS Serena was the day’s top loser slipping 6.3% to KES 45, with investors fearing that the recent terrorist attack in Nairobi which has led to travel advisories will negatively impact the tourism industry.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.51%, USD 748k

Another rather sluggish day in Port Louis as value traded amounted to USD 748k. MCB dominated in terms of activity as atotal of 37k shares traded with the counter slipping 0.5% on the day. SBM was very quiet as 1.19m shares changed hands with the name closing unchanged. There was a bit of activity in NMH as a total of 63k shares traded in the hotelier.

Nigeria: ASI -0.09%, USD 18.40m

Activity picked up quite drastically today as value traded amounted to $18.40m thanks to Guaranty Trust Bank ($5.68m) and Zenith Bank ($4.43m) as the two banking giants accounted for over 50% of today's turnover. Banks (+0.17%) closed the day higher thanks to tier-two banks Skye Bank (+1.45%) and Stanbic (+1.60%). Nestle ($1.51m) was rather active and despite its +4.38% move higher as well as GSK's (+7.81%) strong rally the consumer sector (-0.25%) was unable to close the day higher as Nigerian Breweries and Unilever fell -2.98% and -1.69% respectively. The MPC kept both the CRR and the policy rate unchanged at 50% and 12% respectively as expected at it's meeting today.

South Africa: Closed for the day.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +1.17%, Mining unch, USD 660k

As the interim reporting period comes to a close after which most companies reported constrained earnings exacerbating the price demise aftermath of the august 5th bloodbath, industrials have since somersaulted back into the black. In today's session mid cap gains inspired a 1.17% rise to 194.74pts. Innscor was the exceptional heavy weight gainer adding 0.12% to 82.1c, while TA, Nicoz, CAFCA and related duo of FBCH and Turnall were among the top gainers. TA firmed 33% to 8c, Nicoz added 25% to 2.5c while FBCH and Turnall were 15% and 10% firmer at 14.51c and 5.5c at close of call. Total value traded declined 64% to $0.66m.
