Botswana: DCI +0.03%, USD 6.7m

A massive day in Gaborone as large crosses in Sechaba (1805t) and Stanchart (1160t) took the market to large volumes. Outside of these two names there was some small activity in FNBB and just scraps in a handful of other names.

Egypt: EGX 30 +0.68%, USD 82m

The market managed to trade the day in the greens on decent volumes, leaving the EGX30 to end the day up 0.68% to close at 5,451.23 points. Market volumes remains strong relative to recent turnovers, the market traded a total turnover of USD 82m, its worth mnetioing that the market witnessed several crosses in names such as JUFO, ETEL and OCIC. The market managed to continue to trade in the greens on weaker momentum this was mainly lead by institutional (GCC and Local) and local retail investors targeting names such as EKHO, ESRS and PHDC, each ending the day up 2.38%, 1.81% and 1.67% respectively.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.37%, USD 3.9m

Activity dropped off quite substantially today and amounted to $3.9m as foreign participation fell. Safcom once again lead from the front in terms of activity as a total of 8.20m shares traded with foreigners dominating purchases while locals dominated sales in the name. Barclays was suprisingly active today as 2.78m shares traded with foreigners dominating both sides of the counter. Kenya Commercial Bank sustained its momentum climbing 1.1% to KES 46.50, though foreign investors were net sellers.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.06%, USD 745k

A dull day in Port Louis as the index inched up slowly. The biggest gainer in the Sem-7 was ENL Land which rose by 2.13% to Rs48. MCB also rose by 26bps to Rs192.50 ahead of their results announcement which came out after the session.

Nigeria: ASI +0.04%, USD 18.07m

Activity increased slightly today but there were still no fireworks as value traded amounted to $18.07m. Guaranty Trust Bank ($4.16m) was an exception to the rest of the market from an activity point of view as 26.94m shares traded in the name and seemed to find a level at N25.00. Zenith ($2.27m) and Access ($2.12m) were also rather active thanks to a few crosses. Nestle ($1.77m) was the only name worth mentioning in the consumer sector thanks to a cross early in the session. Banks (-0.10%) ended the day lower thanks to Diamond Bank (-4.22%) and Skye Bank (-2.15%). Consumers (+0.15%) managed to end the day higher thanks to strong moves in Unilever (+4.50%) and PZ Cussons (+1.35%).

South Africa: Top 40 -0.17%, USD 1.03bn

The JSE ended the day lower with the Top 40 Index falling 0.17% to close at 39,755 while value traded amounted to USD 1.03m. Industrials were the day's biggest losers with the Index falling 0.50% followed by Financials which fell 0.31% while Resources gained 0.35%. The Rand was trading at 10.01 and 13.50 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.34%, Mining +3.23%, USD 4.06m

Market heavyweight Delta boosted today’s trade, contributing $3.2m or 78% of the $4.06m turnover with demand remaining at 120c at close of call. The 110% jump in turnover was spurred by +275% growth in foreign purchases to $3.3m. The industrial index continued on its recovery path for the 8th consecutive session firming +0.34% to 196.66pts as market heavies continue to add weight. Sustained demand saw Natfoods firming + 4.4% to close at 240c, cement manufacturers Lafarge notching +4.3% to 120c and telecoms giant Econet leaping +3% to close at 62c. Zimplow and CBZ were both firm for the second consecutive day gaining +7.1% to 4.5c and +3.6% to 14.52c respectively.
