Market Insight: June 15, 2015

Nigeria

•  ASI +19bps, $18.9mill
•  A large cross in Guinness drove proceedings on Friday

Activity has been trying to creep up ever so slightly over the last few sessions, but with most foreigners still on the sidelines, we expect much of the same in today's session.

Kenya

•  NSE20 +42bps, 4.6$mill
•  Activity slowed down on Friday with most of the big names rather quiet

The market opened the day quiet, Safaricom moving 180,200 shares at an improved price of 16.10, 0.3% higher than the previous session. KCB is volatile, at some point retreating 1.7%. Centum was edging higher ahead of full year results to March 2015 due this week. Mumias Sugar, Britam was up 2.6% and 1.1%, but with a supply outweighing demand at prices close to market price. Uchumi was looking weak, down 2.4% but without any apparent major supply. EABL was looking upbeat, while BAT was quiet after last week's excise tax announcement. While they are both slated for a tax increase, investors are more concerned with the eventual tax level BAT will have to take.

Botswana

•  DCI +1bps, $1.82mill

Mauritius

•  Semdex -15bps, $1.9mill

Zimbabwe

•  Ind +11bps, $281k
