Market Insight: May 22, 2015

Nigeria

•  ASI -21bps, $6.8mill
•  An absolute shocker of a day as most names registered paltry trades

An absolutely dire day yesterday from an activity point of view, with much of the same expected today unfortunately.

Kenya

•  NSE20 -35bps, $12.4mill
•  Turnover was mainly buoyed by Safaricom and KCB with the names accounting for 47.3% of activity

While still looking weak, the market started on high volumes with NMG being the largest mover. NMG declined 3.3% on 326,200 shares. Barclays Bank was flat after announcing 1Q15 numbers- generally within expectations. CFC Stanbic Bank declined 1.6% on 1Q15 numbers which were disappointing. Apart from NMG and Co-op bank, foreign investors are net sellers albeit on thin volumes.

Botswana

•  DCI +10bps, $1.6mil

Mauritius

•  Semdex -17bps, $500k

Zimbabwe

•  Ind -22bps, $119k
