The market closed the day lower with the DCI falling 0.13% to close at 6,966.09 while value traded amounted to USD 29k. The were no names that closed higher or lower on the day.
The market ended the day in positive territory today, leaving the EGX30 +0.60% to close at the 3649.42 points level. Market Volumes has improved, market traded a total turnover of USD 27m. Market finally managed to break its record low volumes phase trading approximately EGP165mn in a relatively volatile session particularly in EGX30 stocks. Ironically, session started on extremely low volumes until we noticed large buying interest from internationals in OCIC which managed to pull the market higher. The buying has not been attributed to any news but was more likely delayed due to winter holidays.

Value traded on the Ghanaian Stock Exchange amounted to USD 42k.TLW was the biggest contributor towards value traded (66.88%) with the name closing at 31.00 CEDI. EBG was the second biggest contributor towards value traded (12.23%) with the counter closing at 3.15 CEDI.
The market ended the day lower with the NSE 20 Index falling 0.75% while value traded amounted to USD 1.44m. Foreign purchases accounted for USD 855k of total purchases while foreign sales accounted for USD 201k of total sales. SCAN was the biggest contributor towards value traded (USD 500k) with the name closing at 40.00. COOP was the second biggest contributor towards value traded (USD 244k) with the counter closing at 12.85. EQBNK closed the day at 15.95 and was the third biggest contributor towards value traded (USD 198k).
The market ended the day lower with the Semdex falling 0.28% to close at 1,888.39 while value traded amounted to USD 542k. MCB closed the day flat at 167.00 while SBM fell 0.59% to close at 84.00. Rogers gained 0.62% to close at 325.00 while NMH closed the day flat at 82.00. Both ENL and Terra Mauricia closed unchanged at 42.20 and 38.20.
The Nigerian ASI gained 0.18% while value traded amounted to USD 3.73m. Top traded stocks were Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, First Bank, GTB, UBA, Nigerian Breweries, Niger Insurance, Dangote Cement, Zenith Bank, Flour Mills Plc and Oando. The losers were Oando Plc (-3.27%), GTB (-2.53%) and First Bank (-0.55%). The gainers were led by Vitafoam Plc (4.92%), Honeywell Flourmills (4.65%), Fidelity Bank (4.29%), Redstar Express (4.00%) and Niger Insurance (4.00%). The banking sector ASI closed down 58bps. Access Bank closed flat at N4.80 and traded 400 units while First Bank closed down 0.55% at N8.98 and traded 8.42m units. GTB also closed down 2.53% at N13.85 and traded 2.75m units in total. The sector also had crosses of 4.78m units of First Bank and 1.6m units of GTB. In the building materials sector, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria closed flat at N4.83 and traded 1.8k units while Ashaka Cement also closed flat at N11.29 while trading 5k units. Dangote Cement closed up 1.81% at N115.04 and traded 290k units in total. In the food and beverages sector, Nigerian Breweries closed flat at N95.35 and traded 675k units while Nestle also closed flat at N423.38 and traded 13k units. Guinness closed flat at N237.56 and traded 87k units. There was also a cross of 30m units of ETI.
The JSE ended the day higher with the Top 40 Index gaining 0.08% to close at 29,231 while value traded amounte to USD 1bn. Industrials were the day's biggest gainers with the Index gaining 0.44% while Resources and Financials fell 0.16% and 0.09% respectively. The Rand was trading at 8.17 and 10.41 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.
The market recorded a turnover of USD 32,314. The counters that traded today include CECZ, INVE, LAFA, NATB, PMDZ, PUMA, ZMBF, ZMFA, ZNCO and ZSUG. The biggest contributor towards turnover was LAFA, 3,647 shares traded at average price of ZMK 7,508, turnover amounted to USD 5,476. The second biggest contributor towards turnover was SCBL, 957,171 shares traded at an average price of ZMK 80.17, turnover amounted to USD 15,347.
The industrial index fell 0.1% to close at 139.76. ZHL, TRUST, TRUWORTHS, TNH and AICO all closed lower on the day. CELSYS gained an impressive 67%, while marginal gains were recorded in PEARL, PADENGA, MEIKLES, CBZ, SEEDCO and ZIMPLOW. However, all the gains in these counters were not enough to reverse the negative trend on the index. There were no trades in the mining counters therefore the mining index remained unchanged at last week`s 81 points. Hwange and RIO ZIM both closed at 30c.
