Botswana: DCI unch, USD 2.40m

Activity was centered around BIHL (84%) today as 1.61m shares crossed in the name with total value traded amounting to USD 2.40m. There was a small bit of action in Letshego as 710k shares traded.

Egypt: EGX 30 -0.57%, USD 83m

The market witnessed some profit booking today lead by selling from institutional investors (International and local) leaving the EGX30 to end the day down -0.57% to close at 6,165.96 points. The market traded improved volumes relative to average turnovers, the market traded a total turnover of USD 83m. The market started the day with a notable selling pressure to reach a low of 6,135.63(-1.06%)points, yet by med-session the market witnessed a decent rebound lead by local retail investors targeting names such as PHDC(+1.99%), HRHO(+1.01%) and JUFO(+1.65%), yet names such as ETEL, EKHO and ESRS witnessed selling pressure from institutional investors leaving each to end the day down 2.22%, 2.06% and 1.51% respectively.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.20%, USD 9.1m

Turnover increased today on the back of an increase in foreign participation (64.4%) as value traded amounted to $9.1m. Safcom retuned to the top of the table in terms of value traded thanks to a few chunky crosses as a total of 45.1m shares traded with foreigners dominating both sides of the name. Locals dominated activity in Equity Bank as the name was rather active with 3.77m shares changing hands, with the counter falling -1.4% to close at KES 35.00. Activity dropped off in EABL but was still fairly robust as 112k shares traded.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.23%, USD 840k

Not much on the go in Port Louis today as value traded amounted to USD 840k as PAD dominated activity with 105k shares traded in the name thanks to a few crosses. The two major banking stocks were relatively quiet as 28k shares traded in MCB while 5.43m shares traded in SBM.

Nigeria: ASI +0.11%, USD 25.97m

The trend continued today with a generally quiet market although there were a good few crosses today across myriad of names. Tier 1 banks were very active with some notable crosses in GTB, UBA, Zenith and Access while Tier 2 names were extremely quiet. The only name in the sector that stood out was UBA which closed up 1.94% at N7.90. Consumers ticked up by 17bps with some chunky action in Unilever (-1.02%, N60), Guinness (-41bps, N245), NB (-1.14%, N174) and Nestle (+3.96%, N1050) – Nestle being the main driver behind the consumer strength.

South Africa: Top 40 -0.77%, USD 1.36bn

The JSE ended the day lower with the Top 40 Index falling 0.77% to close at 40,230 while value traded amounted to USD 1.36bn. Resources were the day's biggest losers with the Index falling 1.76% followed by Financials and Industrials which fell 0.47% and 0.31% respectively. The Rand was trading at 9.77 and 13.45 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.35%, Mining -3.01%, USD 1.28m

Market weakness extended for the fourth straight session weighed by heavycap losses in mid week trades. The industrials softened 0.35% to 209.63pts as the decline continued unabated. Cigarates manufacturer BAT and conglomerate Innscor plummeted -4% and -1% to 1200c and 87c respectively to weigh on the industrials. Similary the resources closed in the red shedding 3.01% to 47.97pts on a 3% loss in Rio Zim compounded by a 7.5% dearth in Hwange. Econet topped the value contributors adding $0.58m to a total of $1.28m. Foreign flows were subdued though closing net buyers at $0.9m inflows against $0.58m outflows.
