Botswana: DCI +0.07%, Vols USD 343k

The market closed the day higher with the DCI gaining 0.07% to close at 7,145.48 while value traded amounted to USD 343k thanks to a cross of 1.1m Letlole at 130. Letlole (130t, +10t) and Sechaba (1231t, +1t) were the only names to trade higher on the day while there were no counters that closed lower.

Egypt: EGX 30 -0.99%, Vols USD 54m

The market managed to end the day in negative territory, leaving the EGX30 to end the day down 0.99%, to close at 4955.31 points. Volumes were within recent average volumes, market traded a total turnover of USD 54M. With global markets continuing to trade lower and fears of global economic slowdown increasing, the Egyptian market traded with apparent weakness particularly in the financial and real estate sectors, names such as TMGH and OCDI continue to witness notable selling pressure, each ending the day down 3.00% and 0.24%. HRHO continues to lead the market in terms of volumes, yet the name continues to witness descent selling mostly form international investors, the former ended the day down 1.14% to close at EGP12.09 on volumes of 4.5m shares.

Investor mix:
•  Foreigners were net Sellers by 30.26 mn EGP and were 29.67% of the market.
•  Egyptians were net Buyers by 27.83 mn EGP and were 65.77% of the market.
•  Arabs were net Buyers by 2.42 mn EGP and were 4.56% of the market.
•  Institutions were net Sellers by 54.08 mn EGP and were 48.78% of the market.
•  Retail were net Buyers by 54.08 mn EGP and were 51.21% of the market.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.49%, Vols USD 6.1m

Decent day in Nairobi again with value traded amounting to $6.1m. Kenya Commercial Bank was rather active today with a total of 5.5m shares changing hands thanks to a number of crosses in the name. EABL came under a bit of selling pressure, falling 1.8% on good volume of 466k shares with a number of crosses going through. Equity Bank was also amongst today's top traded stocks with a total of 3.86m shares traded. Foreigners were net buyers today but only just, accounting $3.41m of total purchases while they accounted for $3.38m of total sales. The market closed the day higher with the NSE 20 index gaining 0.49% to close at 3,655.07. BCBL announced Q1 numbers which saw net income climb to 1.97bn Shillings.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.71%, Vols USD 1.1m

The SEM-7 had a strong day +1.01% with SBM +5.59% providing all the pull after they released results yesterday. From the SEM-7 the other name to make a gain on the day was IBL +0.65% while NMH and Rogers lost -1.39% and -1.47% respectively. Terra was the main contributor to value traded after a large cross at the open of 216k shares.

Nigeria: ASI -0.06%, Vols USD 16m

The market drifted along sideways today but with the banks a drag -87bps. The majority of the acttivity was centred around the big banks and Dangote Sugar. FCMB took a big hiding closing -5% worse while on the other side of the spectrum Dangote Flour gained another +5%. Another Dangote group company Dangote Cement had a good day +2.46%, given its market cap it played a big role in softening the blow to the market from the banks' fall.

South Africa: Top 40 +1.04%, Vols USD 1.81bn

The market managed to close in positive territory with the Top 40 Index gaining 1.04% to close at 29,854 while value traded amounted to USD 1.81bn. Industrials were the day's biggest gainers with the Index gaining 1.86% followed by Financials and Resources which gained 0.86% and 0.11% respectively. The Rand was was trading at 8.30 and 10.56 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE -0.01%, Vols USD 180k

A vast improvement in the market activity after a dismal $20k in the previous session. As is almost always the case the activity was centred around a few names being Zambeef +3.59% and 100k worth, Lafarge -1.3% $50k worth and CECZ -0.13% 8k worth.

Zimbabwe: Industrial -0.13%, Mining -0.63%, Vols USD 586k

A bit of a quiet day in Zimbabwe today after yesterday's impressive day with value traded amounting to USD 586k. Delta was once again the biggest contributor towards value traded with 348k shares changing hands at 0.70. The Industrial Index closed the day lower, falling 0.13% to close at 130.36 while Miners also closed in the red with the Index falling 0.63% to close at 84.05.
