Movers & Shakers: January 17, 2017

Botswana: DCI -0.01%, USD 315k

A better day in Gaborone, but still nothing to get too excited about with some sporadic activity in most of the big names, There were no notable crosses worth mentioning.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.90%, USD 4.1m

Another day of nothingness in Kenya with foreign participants once again skewed to the buy side. In fact, if it wasn’t for a relatively chunky cross in BATK (+1.0%, KES 909.00) the day would have been absolutely woeful. Outside of the BATK the only real action took place in Safcom (unch, KES 17.95) while the rest of the market was dead.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.79%, USD 1m

A much better day in Port Louis thanks to some action in MCBG as 113k shares changed hands in the name while the rest of the market remains woefully quiet.

Nigeria: ASI -0.36%, USD 5.4m

It shows just how bad market sentiment has fallen when participants get excited to see $5m change hands in Lagos. Banks closed the day broadly unchanged with no real volumes worth writing home about. Consumers dropped by 1.52% as the lack of interest continues to pull the sector lower.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.09%, USD 501k

Some small activity in Innscor ($243k) and Delta ($150k) the only names worth mentioning on the activity front on a rather dull day in Harare. On the corporate front, Econet released details of a rights and debenture issue whereby they are looking to raise $130m in order to avoid defaulting on their loan obligations.
