Some nice action to end the month in Gaborone. There was some decent action in the likes of Letshego (213t), Sefalana (1075t) and Turnstar (323t).
Another woefully slow day in Nairobi with Safcom ($409k) the only name with any form of activity. Both major banking stock KNCB and EQBNK closed the day -1.9% lower on tiny volume.
The banking stocks combined to account for more than 84% of the total market turnover. Leading the way (as always) was MCBG which finally stalled as the group shed 40bps to close the month at Rs227.00. SBMH closed unchanged at Rs7.02.
A much better day in Lagos in terms of activity thanks once again to Zenith ($5.0m), while there was also some action in NB ($1.6m), Nestle ($1.1m) and GTB ($1.0m). Banking stocks managed to close +0.22% higher thanks to GTB (+0.32%) while consumers (-1.37%) took some strain with NB (-2.12%) being a major drag on the sector. Market heavyweight DangCem released FY 2016 results which saw PAT increase +3% to N186bn. On the economic front Q4 2016 GDP fell -1.30% while while 2016 GDP fell -1.50%.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A large cross in the normally extremely illiquid CFI Holdings was the main action today. The rest of the market had yet another quiet day with Innscor (46.90c) the main player.
