Egypt: EGX 30 +0.32%, USD 108m

The Egyptian market posted marginal profits for the second day. The EGX30 gained 0.32% to close at 9811 points on good volumes of USD 108m. COMI (-0.91%) continued to be the market leader and marking a new ATM high of EGP51.25/share, but could not hold on to this level through heavy selling pressure at the end of the session. OTMT (+2.63%) and GTHE (+0.80%) rallied today on a possible sale of a 5% stake in Mobinil. SKPC (-0.26%) aims to increase revenues 18% through boosting polyethylene production capacity at an estimated initial investment of USD75 million. Institutional participation was 38.1% of the market and local institutions were net sellers worth EGP35 million.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.04%, USD 13.6m

Foreign activity rose as the session progressed with foreign activity skewed to the buy side for a change. In the banks there was heavy activity in the likes of KNCB (unch, KES 58.00), Equity Bank (-3.7%, KES 51.50) and Co-Op (+1.2%, KES 21.75) while Safcom also saw some chunky action (unch, KES 12.90). There was also some activity in normally illiquid names such as NMG, Centum and Diamond Trust Bank.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.01%, USD 1.15m

It was a rather average day in Port Louis as turnover amounted to USD 1.15m as LUX (146k shares), MCBG (37k shares) and CIEL (616k shares) drove proceedings. The Mauritian economy expanded by 4.6% in the second quarter.

Nigeria: ASI +0.25%, USD 41.5m

A chunky trading day to end Q3 in Lagos with some chunky crosses going through in a number of names. These crosses are very often local seller and foreign buyers. Banks gained 50bps for the session with specific action in the likes of Zenith (+41bps, N24.50) and GTB (+7bps, N29.75) while ETI gained a solid 4.47% to N18.70. The consumers ended the session up 43bps and saw a number of crosses in the likes of Nestle, UACN, Intbrew and NB. Cements also saw some action with DangCem (unch, N222) and Wapco (-1.47%, N126.76) both active. Oando was once again very active as it gained 4.87% to N26.28.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.39%, USD 589k

Not much on the go in Harare today with turnover amounting to a dull USD 589k with Innscor ($248k) the only name worth mentioning. The market closed the day higher with the Industrial Index gaining +0.39%.
