Another slow day in Gaborone on the last trading day of the year.
Market turnover declined again today in Nairobi, while the NSE20 was little changed. Safaricom sprung to life today thanks to a few crosses as 3.6m shares traded with the counter closing +1.9% higher. Equity conspicuously gained +2.6% to close at KES39.75. Elsewhere, the rest of the market was extremely quiet.
MCBG (+0.7%, Rs273.00) clipped higher again today and was dominated by foreign purchases. SBMH (unch, Rs7.50) traded flat with 1.5m shares exchanging hands. The most active counters on the day were GRIT, SBMH and MCBG. Both the Semdex (+0.29%) and the Sem-10 (+0.24%) closed the year higher.
Not much on the go in Lagos today with turnover amounting to a dull $7.6m with some activity in Zenith ($1.4m) the only name breaking the $1m mark. There was an off-market cross in Mobil of 24.4m shares @ N170.00. Banks closed the day higher with the sector gaining +0.56% thanks to FCMB (+4.96%), Zenith (+0.55%) and GTB (+0.54%). Consumers (+1.56%) also managed to close higher with good performances in Nestle (+4.78%), Dangflour (+2.45%) and Unilever (+1.94%, N41.00).

A semi decent day, relatively speaking to close off the year, in Harare with strong selling pressure amid scattered purchasing in selected stocks. Nicoz ($3.8m) was the major mover accounting for 85% of today’s total market turnover trading at 3.9700c, Innscor ($388k) and Padenga ($211k) were the only other names worth mentioning.
