Movers & Shakers: March 28, 2014


Botswana: DCI +0.03%, USD 4.82m

Crosses in FNB (6m shares) and Stanchart (1.5m shares) helped increase turnover to a very pleasing USD 4.82m. Otherwise the market was relatively quiet.

Egypt: Closed for the day.

KKenya: NSE 20 +0.28%, USD 10.3menya

EABL once again dominated proeedings today as 1.14m shares changed hands in the brewer with foreigners dominating activity in the name. Activity increased in Safcom today with foreigners also dominating activity here as the telco fell -0.40% ahead of news that the regulator would approve the Essar transaction subject to the latter paying outstanding fees. Total value traded amounted to $10.3m with foreigners accounting for 73% of total activity. Both EBNK and KNCB closed the day unchanged as foreigners also drove proceedings in the two largest banks.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.29%, USD 10.75m

A massive cross in Lux Island Resorts (7.6m shares) which represented 6.59% of the company drove activity today as total value traded amounted to USD 10.75m. The rest of the market was rather quiet as only 1.2m shares changed hands in SBM. NMH announced a dividend of Rs1.00 per share. The market will be closed on Monday for a public holiday.

Nigeria: ASI +0.38%, USD 25.34m

Activity slowed down today but it was still a decent day to end the week as value traded amounted to $25.34m. The top movers came in the form of Nigerian Breweries ($6.80m), Nestle ($4.13m) and Cadbury ($2.76m). Consumer stocks (+0.61%) continued to rally with the star performers being Guinness (+5.00%) and Nestle (+2.44%). Banks (-1.92%) closed the day lower, but this was however largey due to GTB (-5.62%) which went ex-div (N1.45). The rest of the sector was relatively flat. There were a few results after the close with FCMB, Unilever and Diamond Bank all releasing FY 2013 numbers.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.70%, Mining unch, USD 404k

Not much on the go in Harare today as value traded amounted to a very dull USD 404k. There was a small amount of activity in Delta ($200k), but other than that there was nothing to write home about.
