Movers & Shakers: February 07, 2017

Botswana: DCI -0.09%, USD 116k

Nothing much to report from Botswana except for some mild trading in Choppies (235t).

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.50%, USD 5.3m

An average day in Nairobi with Safcom (-1.3%) as per usual driving proceedings on the activity front as 9.8m shares changed hands in the telco. There was a small bit of activity in EABL (unch) thanks to a cross early in the session. EQBNK (+2.0%) had a good day thanks to foreign purchases, while KNCB was dead quiet.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.28%, USD 1.6m

The Mauritian bourse came to life (relatively speaking) today thanks to a couple of crosses in MCBG. The banking behemoth closed unchanged at Rs225.00 while we also saw some more mild action in NMH (unch, Rs21.15).

Nigeria: ASI -0.55%, USD 5.0m

A better day in Lagos, but still nothing to write home about by any stretch of the imagination as all the big names remain very quiet by historical standards. Banking stocks continued to take some strain with the sector falling -0.32% as Zenith (-2.15%) was a major drag. Consumers (-2.54%) took a serious beating, although volumes left a lot to be desired.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -2.24%, USD 480k

The ZSE took a huge hit today as weak sentiment still prevails across the board. Volumes were also rather subdued yet again as foreign investors remain largely on the sidelines.
