Botswana: DSE +0.02%, USD 285k

Action improved in Gaborone although volumes remain thin. There was some activity in Choppies (420t) and FNBB (360t).

Egypt: EGX 30 -0.31, USD 100m

Egypt posted marginal profit-taking after a three-day rising streak. The EGX30 dipped 0.31% to close at 8567 points on low volumes of USD 100m. HRHO gained 1.91% to EGP15.50, marking its highest close since 2011. ORWE, Egypt’s largest manufacturer and exporter of rugs, plunged 4.16% on the back of a stronger EGP in the black market. Institutional profit-taking continued to pressure COMI, down 0.68%. GTHE fell 0.71% on 1.5x the three-month average and ESRS sunk 2.75%. The real estate sector traded against the market as OCDI gained 2.21% and MNHD 2.32%, ending the day at EGP37.50, approaching the previous high of EGP39.00.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.15%, USD 14.2m

Despite strong foreign buying for the second consecutive day the NSE 20 fell. Crosses yet again dominated the day with chunky action in KNCB and EABL while Safcom and Equity Bank were also active. The banks were strong with foreign buyers pushing KNCB higher by 50bps to KES 49.75 while Equity Bank was also pushed higher by foreign investors by 3% to KES 43.25. Strong foreign demand in EABL led the brewer up by 1.8% to KES 288 while Safcom closed the day unchanged at KES 12.85.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.11%, USD 3.54m

A very active day in Port Louis with value traded amounting to USD 3.54m as MCBG (183k shares ) and SBM (28.35m shares) drove activity while there was also some action in ENL Land with 489k shares traded. Tourist arrivals for May increased 5.3% from a year earlier.

Nigeria: ASI -0.21%, USD 52.9m

A massive cross in Transcor (worth $30m) was the bulk of action on a generally quiet day. Banks fell by 62bps for the day with GTB (-3.17%, N30.50) the main faller followed by Fidelity (-2.43%, N2.01) while most other names were unchanged to slightly positive. Consumers gained a solid 1.06% with NB (+1.81%, N180) once again trading higher on good volumes. There was also some good volumes going through in Flourmills (+65bps, N78.00). Oando remains actively traded and closed down 1.18% at N20.10.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.33%, USD 671k

Not much on the go in Harare today as value traded amounted to USD 671k with Econet ($333k) driving activity while only 18k Delta traded. The market closed the day higher with the Industrial Index gaining +0.33%.
