Botswana: DCI +0.13%, USD 756k

Some action today in a number of names. The main focus was in Sechaba (2175t), Letshego (225t) and Choppies (420t).

Egypt: EGX 30 +1.79%, USD 127m

The market managed to pick up its bullish momentum again to witness a notable rebound lead by notable buying from local retail and local institutional investors leaving the EGX30 to end the day up 1.79% to close at 8,026.92 points. The market traded decent volumes relative to recent turnovers, with a total turnover of USD 127m. Optimism managed to spread today after the government announced a law that that prevents third parties from challenging contracts between the state and the investor, which cleared risks on many companies. The real estate sector managed to gain the most from the news, with names such as TMGH, PHDC and OCDI trading above average volumes leaving each to end the day up 7.97%, 3.81% and 3.57% respectively.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.04%, USD 6.6m

It was another solid day from an activity point of view in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $6.6m. Foreigners dominated proceedings in Safcom as the telco was the most active counter on the day with 19.1m shares traded, as it extended gains closing +1.9% higher at KES 13.10. KNCB was also rather active with foreign demand driving activity as a total of 2.67m shares traded. The usually quiet BMBC was surprsingly active thanks to a foreign cross as a total of 218k shares traded.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.06%, USD 1.55m

The Mauritian bourse drifted sideways today. The Sem-7 rose by 11bps led by gains in MCBG (+12bps, Rs215.25), Alteo (+28bps, Rs35.60), Terra (+54bps, Rs37.50) and IBL (+24bps, Rs106.50).

Nigeria: ASI +0.59%, USD 21.80m

It was a much better day in Lagos but still nothing exceptional as value traded amounted to $21.80m thanks to some crosses in the likes of NB ($4.63m), Zenith ($3.05m) and GTB ($2.74m). There was also some decent activity in Transcorp after they released Q1 2014 results with 49.47m shares traded. Banks were very strong with the Index gaining +1.54% thanks to Access (+3.03%), GTB (+2.96%) and Zenith (+1.84%). Consumers (+0.31%) also closed in positive territory thanks to PZ Cussons (+4.53%) which released Q3 2014 results.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -1.91%, Mining unch, USD 2.9m

Activity increased for the second consecutive day on the back of foreign interest although the bearish sentiment remains. Delta fell by 1.08% to 108c after releasing their Q4 trading update while other heavyweights fell, including Econet (-1.6%, 60c), Seedco (-6.7%, 70c) and OKZim (-5.6%, 17c).
