Today was unusual in that the activity was evenly spread between a number of counters. The most active stock was Equity Bank which fell by 2.60% to KES37.50. its banking counterpart KNCB was the second most active name and closed at the exact same price (unch, KES37.50). There was also some crossing in Co-Op (unch, KES17.00) for the second straight day. Rounding off the top traders list was Safcom which gained 2.20% to KES23.25.
Another quiet day of trading in Mauritius. And yet again MCBG dominated the volumes as it accounted for about half the total turnover. The banking group continues to run on steroids and rallied by a further 1.5% to Rs267.00 which is yet another record high
The market took another beating today as the ASI fell by 1.64%. Both the Banks (-2.35%) and Consumers (-2.63%) closed significantly lower. Among the Banks, the only outperformer was UBA which closed 4.31% higher at N9.20. All other names closed in the red with activity dominated by Zenith (-3.63%, N20.43) and UBA. The only consumer name to see any reasonable activity was Nestle which closed up 1bp at N900.01.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The market is definitely showing signs as having run out of puff with the index closing marginally lower today. Volumes remain robust though with local investors still heavily dominant. Today we saw the bulk of the activity in the likes of ZPI and Delta (125.50c).
