A pretty uneventful day on the BSE with the only real trades going through in Letshego (266t).
A solid day in Nairobi from an activity point of view thanks to a few decent crosses in EABL (+0.3%) as 1.6m shares changed hands in the brewer with the sellers being foreign while the buyers were mostly local. The usually illiquid Barclays was also very active (foreign selling/ local buying) as 13.6m shares changed hands. EQBNK managed to close +0.6% higher after posting Q1 2016 results which saw EPS grow +17.2%. KNCB (+1.3%) also managed to close in positive territory as 2.7m shares traded. It was rather slow going in Safcom as the telco is due to release results tomorrow morning.
A quiet day in Port Louis with most names trading in the red. The biggest drags were NMH (-3%, Rs21.00) and MCBG (-90bps, Rs209.00). NMH fell on reported lower earnings for the quarter ended 31 March 2016 due to lower translation gains, provision for financial fraud and higher tax charge. In economic news the tourist arrivals showed increases in arrivals from Europe and Asia while visitors from Africa and Australia fell.
Not much on the go in Lagos today with some activity in Zenith ($1.9m) and GTB ($1.5m) failing to kick start the rest of the market. Banks managed to close slightly higher with the sector gaining +0.62% thanks to Access (+0.47%) and Zenith (+0.36%) while tier-2 bank Diamond Bank (+9.52%) had a good day. Consumers (+0.99%) also closed higher thanks to Flour Mills (+6.79%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The ZSE continues to tick along with demand continuing to push the market. Today we saw decent volumes in NTFD (209.94c) and Innscor (23.20c).
