Movers & Shakers: October 19, 2015

Botswana: DCI +0.09%, USD 78k

A dull start to the week in Gaborone with turnover amounting to $78k.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.75%, USD 4.9m

Another dull day in Nairobi as the market maintained a sluggish trend ahead of tomorrow’s holiday (Mushujaa Day). The most active stock was actually the normally illiquid NSE (local selling, mostly foreign buying). In normal trading activity was extremely muted with not much direction.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.30%, USD 210k

Nothing to report from Port Louis as total value traded amounted to a paltry $210k.

Nigeria: ASI +1.29%, USD 9.7m

Yet another extremely dull day in Lagos which would have been even worse if it wasn’t for a couple of crosses late in the session. The major reason for the index outperformance was heavyweight DangCem which gained 4.93% to N168.95 albeit on virtually non-existent volumes. In normal trading the banks closed marginally higher although outside of Zenith Bank (+57bps, N17.61) the sector was painfully quiet. Consumers closed marginally in the red with some local crossing in Nestle (unch, N830) the only excitement. Elsewhere in the market there were a couple of crosses in Wapco (+66bps, N99.50).

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.08%, USD 137k

Another slow start to the week in Harare as turnover amounted to a dissapointing $137k.
