Movers & Shakers: October 27, 2017

Botswana: DCI unch, USD 259k

The DCI closed unchanged again today for the 5th concesutive session with Sefalana ($127k) almost half of total market turnover, Letshego ($78k) and Choppies ($23k) being the main contributors on the bourse.

Kenya: NSE20 +1.27%, USD 3.3m

A very dull day in Nairobi as activity was incredibly muted a day after Presidential election re-run in Kenya. Although the NSE20 closed higher, turnover declined on the back of some small activity in KCB(+0.65%, KES38.50), Equity (-0.68%, KES36.25), EABL (-0.8%, KES245) and Safaricom (+2.0%, KES25.25). Foreign participation stood at 53%.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.27%, USD 1.5m

Not a bad way to end the week in Port Louis with the indices ending the session in the positive as turnover on bourse amounted to Rs51m. MCBG (unch, Rs275.00) was the major contributor totalling to 55% of total market while ENL Land (unch, Rs43.50) and Phoenix Beverages (+4.9%, Rs535.00) were the only other names with decent activity.

Nigeria: ASI -0.15%, USD 8.45m

Things slowed down as the Nigeria bourse fell further today. Only the banking Index closed in a positive territory (+0.32%) on the back of gains in Unity Bank (+4.00%, N0.52), Sterling Bank (+3.96%, N1.05) and FCMB (+3.77%, N1.10. The consumer sector and the industrial sector shed (-0.76%) and (-0.02%) respectively. The most actively trades names were Dangcem ($1.4m), FBNH ($1.3m) and GTB ($793k).

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.43%, USD 15.56m

A nice way to close off the week on the Harare bourse with a few massive crosses in the likes of Econet (179.00c, $9.7m) accounting for 62% of the market, Detla (306.00c, $1.5m) and Old Mutual (1,428.86c, $1.6m) dominating today’s proceedings. The other names that had decent a day were Lafarge (90.00c, $1.3m) and CFI (71.50c, $248k).
