Movers & Shakers: March 09, 2017

Botswana: DCI +0.15%, USD 139k

Nothing to report from Gaborone.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.10%, USD 9.9m

A very active day in Nairobi with Safcom (68%) heavily dominating the turnover charts. The telco closed down 1.2% at KES16.00 with foreign investors dominating both sides of the equation. In the banks, Equity Bank shed 1.9% to KES26.50 on decent volume while KNCB gained an impressive 5.6% to KES28.50 albeit on more muted volumes. EABL closed at KES214.00 (-50bps).

Mauritius: Semdex +0.10%, USD 1.1m

A decent day in Port Louis thanks to a cross in MCBG with 127k shares changing hands in the name while the rest of the market was quiet.

Nigeria: ASI +0.74%, USD 6.9m

Some local crossing in GTB (-4.87%, N24.61) was the major talking point today after the bank released FY16 results late last night. There was also some decent activity yet again in Zenith (+41bps, N14.65) but GTB dragged the entire sector down by 1.29%. The consumers also lost some of their recent strength by falling by 2.01%. The sector was really quiet though and despite Nestle continuing its impressive recent run (+5.0%, N725.55) this was more than offset by a 6.75% drop in NB (-6.75%, N130.36).

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.29%, USD 1m

A much better day in Harare on the activity front thanks to some chunky action in the local Econet Rights as 28.9m rights changed hands while there was also some activity in Econet ($186k)
