Movers & Shakers: March 20, 2017

Botswana: DCI +0.01%, USD 117k

Nothing exciting to note.

Kenya: NSE 20 +1.77%, USD 5.0m

The Kenyan index rose by an impressive 1.77% today although volumes remain generally muted. Once again the bulk of the action went through in Safcom (44%) with the telco inching higher by 28bps to KES18.00. The rest of the market was pretty quiet with just some small crosses in Barclays Bank (+1.71%, KES8.90) and Co-op Bank (-71bps, KES14.00) going through.

Mauritius: Semdex unch, USD 960k

A rather dull and uneventful day in Port Louis. The major action went through in NMH with the hotel chain gaining 20bps to Rs21.00. There was small activity in MCBG (unch, Rs225.00) and SBMH (unch, Rs7.00).

Nigeria: ASI +0.07%, USD 8.1m

The normally illiquid name Custody Insurance has been the recipient of some local crossing in recent sessions and today we saw another chunky cross in the name. In normal trading, FBNH (-1.27%, N3.10) also saw a large cross of 143m. There was also some late and aggressive buying in GTB (+3.23%, N27.15) which helped the banks to end the day with a +89bps gain. Consumers closed the day 39bps higher although outside of NB (unch, N130.00) there wasn’t much to write home about.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.01%, USD 265k

Nothing much to note from the ZSE today. There was smalls action in Delta (86c) and Econet (15c).
