A fairly active day in Gaborone today with two counters driving the market, Choppies (unch, $224k) and NAP (unch, $237k) being 39% and 42% respectively of total market turnover.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.46%, USD 8.82m

The NSE20 index dipped for the fifth consecutive day dropping -0.46% as turnover increased slightly with activity heavily focused on Safcom ($3.28m). The rest of the market was quiet as foreigners were net buyers accounting for 49.4% of total market purchases.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.93%, USD 1.28m

A little bit of normality returned to the Mauritius bourse as activity was spread across a number of tickers. SBM (+0.5%, Rs7.94), NMH (+0.4%, Rs22.80), Alteo (+1.3%, 32.00), Lux (unch, Rs62.50), SUN (unch, Rs45.05) and MCB (+2.8%, Rs289.00) being the key suppliers in the market contributing to the strengthening of the index. IBL reported a 24% rise in annual pre-tax profit, it will be included on the SEMSI from 2 October 2017.

Nigeria: ASI -1.15%, USD .95m

Bearish sentiments prevailed in the Nigerian equities market, as the NSE ASI sheds 115bps to settled at 34,951.27 points. Gains posted by Jaiz Bank (+4.48%, N0.70), Unity Bank (+3.70%, N0.56), Skye Bank (+1.89%, N0.54) and Zenith Bank (+0.50%, N22.12) sustained the banking sector. The losses recorded in Intbrew (-4.90%, N35.68), Champion (-3.91%, N2.21), Nestle (-1.61%, N1,205.30), and Dangflour (-0.79%, N6.30) depressed the consumer sector. Also, losses recorded in Dangcem (-3.29%, N206.00) depressed the industrial sector index. A few notable trades of the day were the transactions executed on GTB ($1.69m), Access ($1.34m), Dangcem ($21.21m), Stanbic ($1.05m) and Zenith ($1.00m). On the ecomonic front, the Nigerian Central Bank left interest rate unchanged at 14%.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +2.25%, USD 7.67m

Activity continued to impress in Harare as turnover amounted to $7.67m thanks to Padenga ($2.5m), Delta ($1.5m), Innscor ($1.5m) and Simbisa ($1m). Both the industrial and mining indices clipped higher again today up +2.25% and +1.7% respectively.
