Another dull day in Gaborone as turnover amounted to $25k.
A solid day to end the week from an activity point of view with turnover amounting to $9.8m as foreigners accounted for 71.7% of total value traded. A large foreign cross early doors in EQBNK kicked things off as a total of 5.7m shares traded with the name closing at KES 49.50. Foreign demand drove Safcom +0.6% higher as 14m shares changed hands in the telco. There was some activity in the usually illiquid I&M Bank as 1m shares traded with locals dominating purchases while foreigners were the sellers. EABL and KNCB were relatively quiet as 152k shares and 771k shares changed hands in the names respectively.
Not a bad day interms of activity in Port Louis as turnover amounted to $2.43m with SBM (75% of volume) dominating proceedings thanks to foreign participation with the counter closing the day unchanged. Fellow banking competitor MCBG also closed the day unchanged.
A slight improvement in activity in Lagos but still nothing to write home about as turnover amounted to $20.9m with some action in UACN ($2.96m), GTB ($2.83m), NB ($2.38m) and UBA ($2.16m) the only names worth mentioning. Banks came under pressure as the sector fell -0.63% thanks to weakness in Access (-5.82%), UBA (-5.00%) and ETI (-1.44%). Consumers (-0.07%) closed slightly lower with NB (-1.31%, after releasing results yesterday) and Dangote Sugar (-0.69%) dragging the sector lower.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Econet (unch, 49c), Delta (unch, 106c) and CBZ (unch, 10c) were the most actively traded names in the session, contributing $196k, $105k and $176k respectively. Most counters closed unchanged with volumes remaining thin across the board.
