The market remains quiet
The index closed the session in positive territory on the back of improved turnover (rose 79.8%). Top mover of the day was Safaricom (accounted for 50.8% of turnover) as local demand drove the counter 0.6% higher. Other movers included CFC Stanbic (unch, KES124), KCB (-0.8%, KES62) and Equity Bank (unch, KES49.50). Centum rose 3.2% to close at KES64 after seeing through days of negative sentiments.
MCBG and SBM remained firm during the session to close up by 0.6% and 2.2% respectively. SBM traded a total of 52.3m shares to close at Rs0.94 on the back of sustained demand for the name whilst MCBG traded a total of 279k shares to close at Rs200.25. Other counters closed the session unchanged.
Market turnover improved but activity still remains below average. Top value trades included GTB (-1.39%, N28.30), Zenith Bank (-3.24%, N20.90), Wapco (+0.55%, N94.01) and NB (+0.61%, N151.18) contributing $1.85m, $1.96m, $1.77m and $1.03m respectively. The Banking index lost 1.52% whilst the Consumer index closed the day on a positive note, gaining 0.56% on the back of gains in sector heavyweights Nestle (+2.73%, N940) , NB and Guinness (+2.32%, N164).

CBZ (unch, 10c), Ok Zim (unch, 11c) and Old Mutual (unch, 251c) were the significant contributors of the day, contributing $101k, $126k and $104k respectively. Most of the counters closed the day unchanged.
