Small paltry trades continue to plague the bourse
Another dull day in Nairobi as investors (both foreign and local) remain cautious in the wake of the confusion surrounding the new CGT rules. The 2 most active stocks were EABL (-1.3%, KES306.00) and Equity Bank (unch, KES49.00). There was also mild action in Safcom (+70bps, KES13.85), NICB (unch, KES63.00) and BCBL (-2.7%, KES15.95) although the market remains extremely quiet.
PBL had a very strong day, as the name closed at an all time high of Rs248(+2.3%), buoyed by foreign demand. MCBG declined by 0.3% to close at Rs195 while its banking counterpart SBM, continues to remain firm at Rs1.01. LUX gave up 1.3% of its Friday gains to close at Rs59 on the back of 20.7K shares traded. On a positive note, tourist arrivals for 2014 increased +4.6%.
A sluggish start to the trading week in Lagos as turnover amounted to $19.89m thanks mostly to some large crosses in Zenith ($8.39m) as 96m shares changed hands in the name. There was also some action in DangCem ($1.77m), NB ($1.48m) and Nestle ($1.20m). Banks continued to come under pressure as the sector closed -1.93% lower thanks to ETI (-4.98%), GTB (-2.68%) and Zenith (-2.62%). Consumers (-1.91%) were also weak as Nestle (-5.00%), Glaxo (-4.98%) and NB (-1.77%) dragged the sector lower. Market heavyweight DangCem managed to close +4.88% higher.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The Harare bourse opened the week on low volumes, with Barclays gaining 11.1% on a volume of 137,002 shares, to close at 3c. Also among the notable gainers was Innscor (+2.7%) and Delta (0.0%), each trading 53,360 and 288,101 shares, closing at 57c and 106.03c respectively.
