Movers & Shakers: July 06, 2015

Botswana: DCI +0.01%, USD 16k

Nothing to report on Gabrone as turnover amounted to $16k

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.03%, USD 18.9m

Another large cross in Equity Bank (at KES47.50) on the open was the lion’s share of the activity today. The cross was foreign-foreign hence the overall foreign stats were skewed towards foreign participants. Outside of this there was some decent crossing in EABL (-4.5%, KES277.00) and KNCB (-90bps, KES54.50). Local action was once again strong in Centum (+1.6%, KES64.50).

Mauritius: Semdex +0.01%, USD 620k

A very slow start to the week as turnover amounted to $620k, with some activity in MCBG (65k shares) the only name worth mentioning.

Nigeria: ASI -0.28%, USD 8.3m

A woefully dull start to the week as the bourse just can’t seem to crack the $10m level. When global markets are risk averse we generally see low volumes and weak performance in the African markets and today was no exception. Banks slid by 22bps with only really Zenith (-1.86%, N19.00) moving the dial. Consumers were also weak (-80bps) with the bulk of the action taking place in NB (-1.28, N142.16).

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.51%, USD 13k

Absolutely dire day in Harare as turnover amounted to a paltry $13k after the implementation of the ATS last Friday.
