Movers & Shakers: July 13, 2015

Botswana: DCI +0.12%, USD 88k

Another dull day in Gaborone.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.08%, USD 7.4m

A quiet start to the week in Nairobi with foreign participation much lower than it has been in recent weeks. The most active name was actually Centum (-80bps, KES61.50) which once again saw some chunky local crosses. Safcom fell by 90bps to KES15.85 and was quiet for most of the day until a cross shortly before the close. Equity Bank was also quiet until a late cross (unch, KES44.75) while KNCB also ended the day unchanged at KES55.00.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.78%, USD 720k

A really dull start to the week in Mauritius as market sentiment remains soft. The most active name was MCBG which actually gained 20bps to Rs209.75 while the rest of the market was uneventful.

Nigeria: ASI -0.32%, USD 27.3m

It was much the same in Nigeria today as a generally quiet session was sparked by a couple of large crosses in the likes of Zenith ($14m), Dangcem ($7m) and Nestle ($2m). Outside of these 3 names barely more than $5m changed hands. Sentiment again hurt banks as the index slipped by 1.02% with Zenith (-37bps, N18.88) the only name seeing any decent action. All banking names closed in the red. Similarly, negative sentiment hurt the consumers as the sector slipped by 1.15%. The main attraction was Nestle which closed at N840 (-1.18%). Dangcem closed the day up 1.01% at N170.00

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.18%, USD 1.2m

The Zimbabwean bourse is showing the first signs of some life returning as the market continues to digest the new electronic trading platform. As usual the 2 most active names were Delta (96.75c) and Econet (35.05c).
