A dire day in Gaborone with nothing to report.
It was a dull affair in Nairobi from an activity point of view with the market coming under some serious foreign selling pressure. EQBNK (unch) was the most active name on the day as 3.8m shares changed hands while KNCB came under some foreign selling pressure and closed the day -3.0% lower. Market heavyweights Safcom and EABL closed the day in negative territory, falling -0.9% and -0.7% respectively.
Once again we saw some chunky action in MCBG (unch, Rs208.50) as the banking stock accounted for 84% of total market turnover. The rest of the market was quiet.
There was not much improvement on yesterday's session from an activity point of view with crosses in NB ($2.4m), GTB ($2.1m), Guinness ($1.9m), Presco ($1.6m) and DangCem ($1.4m) driving proceedings. Banking stocks managed to close the day higher with the sector gaining +0.98% thanks to Access (+3.70%), Zenith (+3.40%) and UBA (+2.63%). Consumers (+0.94%) also closed in positive territory thanks to a solid move higher in NB as the name gained +2.85%.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The Industrials ticked further lower today with the bulk of the action going through at 13c in Simbisa while the rest of the market was quiet.
