Movers & Shakers: July 19, 2016

Botswana: Closed for the day.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.91%, USD 11.6m

A much better day in Nairobi thanks to large crosses in Safcom (+2.3%) and EQBNK (-1.3%) as 31.4m shares and 13m shares changed hands in the names respectively with the general market coming under pressure from both local and foreign sellers. Outside from the aforementioned crosses there was not much else to write home about with some very small activity in EABL and KNCB as 114k shares and 749k shares traded respectively.

Mauritius: -0.09%, USD 1.2m

Activity in MCBG (unch, Rs207.00) once again witnessed the lion’s share of market turnover on a generally quiet day.

Nigeria: ASI -0.85%, USD 5.6m

Another absolutely atrocious day in Lagos as the needle never started moving by any stretch of the imagination. The only activity was a cross in NB (+1.47%, N135.04). Banks (-2.88%) were soft and quiet while Consumers (+42bps) were dead outside of NB.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.05%, USD 231k

Another dire day in Harare as the market continues to dry up. The main activity today was in Seedco (57c).
