Movers & Shakers: November 10, 2014

Botswana: DSE unch, USD 71k

Nothing happening in Gaborone today as turnover amounted to a paltry USD 71k.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.33%, USD 3.3m

A really apathetic day in Nairobi as the weekend sluggishness never wore off. Foreign participation was also very small yet heavily skewed to the buy side. The bulk of the action took place in Safcom (unch, KES 12.95) while Equity Bank gained 1.5% to KES 49.25. The demand was driven by local buying. KNCB ended the day unchanged at KES 53.50 ahead of tomorrows results release

Mauritius: Semdex -0.26%, USD 670k

A dull start to the week in Port Louis as turnover amounted to USD 670k as the likes of MCBG (11k shares) and SBMH (3.26m shares) were very quiet.

Nigeria: ASI +0.03%, USD 41.6m

The bloodbath came to an end in impressive fashion today with both banks (+3.43%) and consumers (+2.52%) showing strong gains. Volumes were also significantly higher than normal for the third consecutive session. Banks were led higher by the Tier 1 names which all closed in the green. Volumes were dominated by GTB (+1.04%, N24.25), FBNH (+3.35%, N9.57) and Zenith (+4.43%, N21.00). In the consumers (+2.52%) activity was dominated by some chunky crosses in NB (+5%, N149.42) followed by Nestle (+2.46%, N860.00). Cements were still a bit soft although the freefall seems to be coming to an end Wapco (-33bps, N76.59). There was also some decent action in the normally illiquid Mansard (+33bps, N3.00).

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.11%, USD 355k

Much of the same in Harare today as turnover amounted to a dull USD 355k while the market closed the day higher with the Industrial Index gaining +0.11%.
