Egypt found support at the 9115 level, losing 0.53% on lower-than-average volumes of EGP587 million. Positive news regarding the USD5 billion deposit from Saudi Arabia and the UAE managed to slow down selling pressure compared to global and regional peers. COMI (+0.3%) saw good foreign interest, holding strongly at EGP47.00/share after finding strong buyers close to EGP46.00/share at the session's open. ETEL surged 3% with 1.4 million shares changing hands -- twice the average turnover. Institutional participation was 37.9% of trading volume, where foreign investors added up to 26%, ending the day as net sellers worth EGP17.1 million.
A much quieter day in the absence of the DTK blocks that have been going through. Foreigners were actually the bulk of the market and were pretty evenly split between buying and selling. The lions share of the volumes took place in a foreign-foreign cross in EABL (+40bps, KES275). Safcom was dominated by local players as it closed unchanged at KES12.75. A foreign-foreign cross in Scan was also notable.
A very average day in Port Louis as turnover amounted to USD 1m. There was some action in the likes of IBL (88k shares) and MCBG (37k shares) while the rest of the market was very quiet.
A dull day in Lagos with weakness permeating through most of the market. Banks slipped by 82bps with Tier 1 names all closing in the red, the biggest fallers being FBNH (-2.32%, N12.61) and UBA (-2.68%, N6.18). The consumers were also weak with the sector falling by 1.24%, mostly on the back of weakness in PZ (-4.98%, N30.33), Guinness (-3.19%, N182) and NB (-56bps, N179). Oando had yet another active day as it closed unchanged at N25.00.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A sub-par day to start the week in Harare as turnover amounted to USD 752k with some action in DZL ($400k) and Econet ($202k). The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.66%.
