Movers & Shakers: October 27, 2014


Botswana: DSE +0.05%, USD 1.01m

A relatively active day in Gaborone after the long weekend due to the elections last Friday with turnover amounitng to USD 1.01m. Crosses in the likes of Sechaba (126k shares), Letshego (883k shares) and FNBB (410k shares) drove proceedings.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.45%, USD 5.6m

Another quiet day in Nairobi with foreign participation once again skewed to the sell side. EABL was the most active stock with heavy foreign action on both sides as the brewer ended the day marginally in the green at KES 275. Safcom also saw some trading although foreign selling pressure caused the stock to close lower at KES 12.20. The banks were quieter than usual with Equity Bank and KNCB closing down 1% (KES 50.50) and 3.6% (KES 53.50) respectively.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.16%, USD 1.11m

A rather average day to start the week in Port Louis as turnover amounted to USD 1.11m with MCBG (61k shares) driving proceedings. There was some activity in CIEL (509k shares) and IBL (22k shares) while only 21k shares traded in SBMH.

Nigeria : ASI -0.63%, USD 23.4m

Groundhog day yet again in Lagos as the market remains dull with just the odd cross lightening up the volumes. Banks closed down by 21bps as some selling returned after last weeks rally. Activity was focused on ETI (+1.31%, N18.50), GTB (-18bps, N27.25) and Zenith (+71bps, N22.75). Consumers got hit much harder and closed down 1.11% with activity mainly taking place in NB (-1.76%, N167.00), Nestle (-1.80%, N981.00) and Guinness (-3.02%, N176.50). Seplat also saw some decent action as the name closed down 5% at N545.30.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -1.33%, USD 616k

Not much on the go in Harare as turnover amounted to USD 616k with some action in DZL ($584k) the only name worth mentioning. The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -1.33%.
