Movers & Shakers: September 05, 2016

Botswana: DCI +0.10%, USD 4.5m

A very impressive start to the week from an activity point of view (relatively speaking), thanks to a cross in Letshego as 20.3m shares changed hands in the name. There was also some activity in Sechaba as 232k shares traded.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.52%, USD 6.0m

Outside of 1 cross in EqBnk the session was extremely dull. This was to be expected with the US closed. Equity Bank closed unchanged at KES26.50. The only other stock that showed any modicum of trading was Safcom which closed down 7.8% at KES18.40 (please note that the telco traded ex-div today; Final dividend of KES0.76 and a Special dividend of KES0.68). The rest of the market was dull.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.18%, USD 670k

A slow start to the week in Port Louis with some small activity in MCBG the only name worth mentioning as 87k shares traded. Please note that the market will be closed for a holiday tomorrow.

Nigeria: ASI -0.18%, USD 4.9m

As expected with the US out for Labor Day we saw another muted day of trading in Lagos. And once again there was no clear direction in the markets with banks closing slightly higher while consumers ended the day slightly softer. The only stock that saw anything resembling decent volume was GTB which closed at N27.01 (-11bps).

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.04%, USD 11k

Nothing to report from Harare.
