Movers & Shakers: September 30, 2016

Botswana: Market closed for the day.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.79%, USD 8.2m

After an extremely dull start we saw a number of nice crosses go through. Most of this action was centered on 3 names. These being Safcom (+50bps, KES19.95), CFCB (unch, KES71.50) and EqBnk (+3.4%, KES30.75). The rest of the bourse was quiet.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.87%, USD 3.13m

Massive volumes in the normally illiquid Greenbay Properties (+12.5%, Rs0.09) was the major talking point today. In normal trading, most stocks were quiet with the exception of MCBG (+1.4%, Rs221.00) which released FY16 Results earlier this morning.

Nigeria: ASI +0.31%, USD 7.5m

It was a painfully quiet start to the session although a couple of crosses towards the close gave some respectability to proceedings. Banks slipped by 1.31% with the main highlight being a late cross of 50m shares in ETI (unch, N11.50). Consumers gained 1.46% with NB (+3.14%, N150.00) once again the leading light. Please note that the NSE is closed on Monday for Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.22%, USD 394k

A quiet end to what has actually been a rather active week in Harare. The index dripped lower with the lion’s share of the trading going through in Delta (60c).
