Movers & Shakers: September 27, 2016

Botswana: DCI +0.01%, USD 71k

Nothing to report from Gaborone.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.61%, USD 13.7m

A much better day in Nairobi thanks to some foreign action in Safcom (+1.0%) as 53.6m shares changed hands in the telco. EABL closed the day -1.4% lower after two articles published by the Business Daily which suggested that excise duty remission of 90% on Senator Keg had been withdrawn following the deletion of the relevant section in the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act 2010 (ADCA). The two major banking stocks ended the day mixed on small volume as EQBNK gained +2.8% while KNCB closed unchanged.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.17%, USD 790k

Nothing much to write home about from Port Louis. There was some action in the extremely illiquid Attitude Property while in normal trading we once again saw MCBG (+90bps, Rs215.25) leading the way.

Nigeria: ASI -0.05%, USD 4.4m

Another dire day from an activity point of view in Lagos with some small action in GTB ($1.48m) the only name to break the $1m mark. Banking stocks closed the day slightly higher with the sector gaining +0.11% Thanks to Zenith (+0.97%) and UBA (+0.48%). Consumers (+0.34%) also closed in positive territory, albeit on tiny volumes.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.60%, USD 3.3m

An extremely active day in Zimbabwe compared to what we have seen in recent months. Market turnover was dominated by Delta (62.25c), Fidelity (11c) and Innscor (23.10c).
