Botswana: DCI +0.12%, USD 1.27m

Activity returned to the Gaborone bourse today. The most active names were Letshego (252t) and BIHL (1120t) followed by ABCH (720t) and Stanchart (1200t).

Egypt: EGX 30 +1.31%, USD 103m

Euphoria continues to drive the Egyptian market higher. The EGX30 rallied 1.31% on good volumes of EGP734 million. COMI (+3.27%) led the market reaching a new 52-week high of EGP43.70 with 1.78 million shares changing hands. HRHO gained 2.88% after Etisalat Misr picked them as financial advisor to co-manage the IPO sale. CCAP was unchanged today with subsidiary Nile Logistics recording its first two months of positive EBITDA supported by improved container transshipment and stevedoring operations. RAYA (+0.76%) shareholders approved at the EGM increasing the company’s paid-in capital by EGP50 million through a rights issue, lower than the BoD’s recommended increase of EGP100 million. ALEX (-0.19%) profits for 1H2014 dropped 79% to EGP38.5 million mainly driven by a 20% decrease in sales revenue.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.25%, USD 5.5m

Not much on the go today in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $5.5m as foreign participation fell to 39.2%. The rally in the two major banking stocks since releasing H1 numbers continued today with KNCB gaining 2.9% while EQBNK gained +1.5%. Foreigners (94.4%) dominated purchases in Safcom as the telco gained 0.7%. Kenya Airways gained +0.5% on news the national carrier received its third dreamliner (Boeing 787) in a bid to boost its long haul capacity.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.08%, USD 1.64m

The Semdex inched higher today on the back of gains in MCBG (+12bps, Rs215) and Ciel (+29bps, Rs6.98). This was partially offset by a loss in NMH (-57bps, Rs87). There was also some decent activity in Sun Resorts which rose by 3.41% and closed at Rs42.50.

Nigeria: ASI -0.32%, USD 30.5m

It was a solid enough start to the week in Lagos from an activity point of view with turnover amounting to $30.5m. Crosses in the likes of NB ($8.12m), GTB ($4.38m), Access ($2.22m) and Seplat ($1.98m) helped boost activity. Banks managed to rebound after Friday's sell-off with the Index gaining +0.08% thanks to strong moves in FBNH (+2.71%) and GTB (+1.22%) while Access (-1.00%) came under pressure. Consumers (+0.05%) also managed to close slightly higher thanks to Flour Mills (+1.02%) and NB (+0.43%). DangCem was a drag on the broader market with the counter falling -1.59%.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.11%, USD 175k

A very dull day in Harare as the trading volumes remain on the low side. With nothing much to note the main activity was again focused on Delta (126.33c) and Econet (71c).
