Botswana: DCI +0.18%, USD 1.91m

It was a third consecutive day of decent action in Gaborone. Today the activity was centered on Stanchart (1199t), Choppies (420t) and Letshego (251t).

Egypt: EGX 30 +1.16%, USD 140m

Bullish momentum continues to drive the Egyptian market higher, leading the EGX30 to end the day up 1.16% on strong volumes of EGP1.0 billion. Foreign institutions were the main market drivers, ending the day as net buyers worth EGP79 million and targeting blue chips, COMI up 1.96% and ESRS gained 0.40%. AUTO (+0.53%) posted a relatively strong set of results in 2Q2014, with revenues coming in at EGP3,082 million, up 42.2% y-o-y. HRHO reached a new 3-year high of EGP17.60/share on approximately twice the 3-month average volume. HRHO came under notable selling pressure at the end of session to last print at EGP16.72/share, down 1.7%. PHDC rallied 0.71% with 16 million shares changing hands, approaching our technical target of 4.60.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.22%, USD 17.2m

An extremely active day in Nairobi as value traded increased to $17.2m with locals accounting for 52.1% of turnover. KNCB (-5.2%) came under pressure with local investors dominating sales in the name and taking some profit after a very strong run as 12.93m shares traded. EABL (-1.3%) also came under pressure ahead of FY 2014 results due tomorrow morning. There was some late activity in Safcom with foreigners (99.9%) dominating purchases in the telco as 16.41m shares traded. There was a foreign cross in the usually illiquid BATK as 122k shares traded.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.25%, USD 3.13m

The Port Louis bourse climbed higher today on much improved volumes. The bulk of today’s activity took place in SBM as the bank gained 93bps to Rs1.08 while MCBG slipped by 23bps to Rs214.50. There were also marginal gains for ENL Land (+10bps, Rs49.05) and Alteo (+29bps, Rs34.70).

Nigeria: ASI +0.64%, USD 18.59m

It was a subpar day in Lagos as value traded amounted to a dull $18.59m. Zenith ($5.29m), GTB ($2.06m) and UBA ($1.22m) were the pick of the bunch from an activity point of view. Banks continued to rally today with the Index gianing +1.28% as tier-1 banks ETI (+4.62%) and GTB (+1.37%) were the star performers. Consumers (+0.19%) were slightly stronger with gains in PZ Cusson (+0.58%) and Flour Mills (+0.53%) the highlights.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.57%, USD 786k

The Zimbabwean bourse continues to inch higher on quiet volumes. The most active stock today was Econet (72c) followed by Dawn (1.15c) and BAT (1330c). Delta was extremely quiet yet again and closed unchanged at 128c.
