Nothing to report in Gaborone.
The buying from yesterday continued into today’s session although general activity was extremely lackluster. The lion’s share of today’s action took place in the banks with both Equity Bank (+8.1%, KES43.25) and KNCB (+7.1%, KES49.25) closing strong. The rest of the market was pretty much non-existent.
The Mauritian bourse retreated on the back of weakness in the banks while volumes remain thin. Both MCBG (-1%, Rs221.75) and SBMH (-1.1%, Rs0.89) were soft on the back of profit taking after recent strength.
A painfully quiet session to end the week as the buying interest from earlier in the week looks well and truly over. Banks fell by 1.17% although outside of Zenith Bank (-1.74%, N16.90) and Stanbic (-4.11%, N21.00) the sector was extremely dull. The consumers (-28bps) were very quiet with just an early cross in Unilever (unch, N37.81) going through. Elsewhere we saw a chunky bookover in the normally illiquid Continsure (unch, N0.93).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another solid day in Harare as turnover amounted to $1.43m thanks to Econet ($1.08m) and Delta ($297k) while the rest of the market was very quiet.
