Kenya: NSE 20 +0.84%, USD 8.0m

It was a decent day in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $8.0m as foreign activity increased to 51.3%. Safcom dominated proceedings and accounted for 32.7% of turnover as the telco gained 1.6% on 17.98m shares. Foreign demand drove KNCB (+2.0%) higher as 2.56m shares traded. Britam and Housing Finance gained an impressive 9.3% and 9.4% respectively after Britam announced that it intends to buy 57,270,000 shares of Housing Finance.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.32%, USD 1.6m

It was a much better day in Port Louis with value traded amounting to USD 1.6m thanks to action in SBM (27m shares) and MCBG (61k shares) while there were once again no trades in NMH.

Nigeria: ASI +0.30%, USD 30.7m

A large cross of 50m Access early in the session got things off to a start in Lagos as a total of $5.20m worth traded in the name while total value traded in the market amounted to $30.7m. Other big contributors towards turnover came in the form of Zenith ($4.43m), Oando ($2.96m) and NB ($2.07m). Banks had a reasonable day with the Index gaining +0.68% thanks to UBA (+4.55%), Access (+2.62%) and Zenith (+1.80%). Consumers (+0.23%) continued to march higher with 7UP gaining +10.25% after releasing results and IntBrew gaining +4.87%.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.04%, USD 979k

A sluggush day in Harare with value traded amounting to USD 979k as Delta ($810k) accounted for the majority of turnover while only 41k Econet traded. The market closed the day slightly lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.04%.
